Today is jam-packed with exploration. Your extensive Delhi tour will introduce you to the city’s contrasting sides; past and present, Indian and colonial.

Beginning in Old Delhi in the morning, you’ll explore the 300-year old walled capital city built by the great Mughal emperor, Shah Jehan. Here, you’ll find the imposing, red sandstone Jama Mosque - one of India’s finest. Other points of interest include the historic Red Fort, stunning Jama Masjid mosque, and the important and poignant shrine of Mahatma Gandhi, Raj Ghat.

The afternoon introduces you to New Delhi, once the British colonial stronghold and capital, designed by architects Sir Edward Lutyens and Herbert Baker. Cruise past the spectacular President’s House, Rashtrapati Bhavan, and the two flanking Secretariat buildings - the nerve-centre of government activity to this day. Reflect on the past at India’s war memorial, India Gate, and soak in beauty at the opulent Humayun’s tomb. Finish the tour in Delhi style at the city’s most iconic landmark, Qutub Minar, towering at 73 metres since the 12th-century.

This afternoon, a transfer will take you from the madness of India’s capital, to the city of Agra and one of the world’s most phenomenal monuments. Once you arrive, you’ll check in to either the Jaypee Palace or the ITC Mughal, both excellent hotels.

Suggested Accommodation

Arising with the first glimmers of dawn, you’ll head to the Taj Mahal, an utterly glorious mausoleum built by Shah Jehan in memory of his queen, Mumtaz Mahal. Arguably India’s most famous landmark, this is a monument best experienced with the iridescent rays of sunrise and tranquillity of this time of day. You’ll join a Taj Mahal tour to explore the beautiful interiors and glistening exteriors and learn about the fascinating stories behind this architectural masterpiece.

The Agra tour continues at the Agra Fort complex; with marble mosques, incredible royal pavilions and wonderful panoramas of the landscape (and Taj Mahal) from the many balconies. But the day’s adventure doesn’t end here - this evening will be spent aboard a night train, whizzing through the landscape to Katni on the Mahakoshal Express (07:55pm to 07:15am). A unique and memorable Indian experience.

You’ll arrive at Katni train station at 07:15am, after a night’s rest lulled by the motion of the train. At the station, you will be collected and driven to Bandhavgarh. Once there, check in to your new hotel - the King’s Lodge. Rustic and comfortable, this resort is nestled in the midst of deep forest, perfect for the start of your adventures.

Bandhavgarh National Park stretches across the Vindhya hills of Madhya Pradesh; home to a huge variety of habitats and incredibly rich biodiversity. The park is known for having the highest population of wild Royal Bengal tigers - including the incredibly rare white tiger - and here you will have the chance to see these mesmerising creatures in person on one of India’s best tiger safaris. The forests encompassing Bandhavgarh were long maintained as a game preserve for the Maharaja of Rewa, now a huge wildlife sanctuary.
