Ultimate Arctic Summer Adventure – Belugas and Polar Bears

Embark on a wildlife trip of a lifetime to observe both majestic polar bears and gentle beluga whales in their natural summer environments. Nowhere else on earth can you witness both incredible creatures in such proximity from one another.

You’ll start our Ultimate Arctic Summer Adventure in Manitoba’s bustling capital of Winnipeg. Then you’ll base yourself in the isolated, yet fascinating town of Churchill, which can be found perched on the wild shores of Hudson Bay. In Churchill, you’ll discover all about the local area and its captivating heritage, visiting plenty of historic sites in the town.

But the real focus of your trip is wildlife spotting, of course. Cruise the waters of Hudson Bay and its river estuaries to look out for the snow-white polar bears that swim in the waters and bask in their summer surroundings. Then, once again you’ll sail the seas of Hudson Bay, but this time to spot the hundreds of white-skinned beluga whales that come to feast, mate and give birth in the warm, shallow waters. You’ll even have the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to snorkel and swim close to these magnificent creatures – a truly spectacular experience.

You’ll also roam the tundra on the impressive Arctic Crawler™ where you can observe the fascinating landscapes and fauna and watch out for more arctic wildlife. Keep your eyes peeled for arctic sik siks, over 200 nesting or migrating bird species, arctic hares, arctic foxes and seals.

Following a scrumptious breakfast, it’s time to take to the waves again for more wildlife spotting. This time, you’ll be sailing the seas on a three hour beluga whale boat tour in the Hudson Bay area. Keep your eyes peeled for the pale friendly faced beluga whales that are known to cruise the waters.

These mighty sea creatures are attracted to the waters of Hudson Bay, as the near coastal waters are both shallow and warm, offering ideal conditions for feeding, mating and giving birth. Your knowledgeable guide will offer an interesting commentary on these marvellous creatures and their habitat as you observe them feeding on schools of caplin, arctic char and brook trout.

For a once-in-a-lifetime experience, you’ll also have the opportunity to snorkel and share the waters with the playful beluga whales as an optional extra. This one is not to be missed.

Your tour also includes a walking expedition of the aging Prince of Wales Fort where you can learn all about the area’s history. Then it’s overnight and a good night’s sleep at Lazy Bear Lodge.
