Your New England adventure begins in buzzing Boston, the home of the Red Sox, the Boston Symphony Orchestra and one of the United States’ most historic cities. From here, the coastal towns of New England are just waiting to be discovered. Explore pretty Kennebunkport and Bar Harbour as you make your way from the city to the splendid mountains and rural landscapes New England is famous for. See the glorious White Mountains of New Hampshire and explore the Acadia National Park, making time to stop at the summit of Cadillac Mountain; the highest peak on the Atlantic Seaboard.

As your trip continues, take some time out to enjoy the elegance and luxury of one of New England’s most idyllic and affluent vacation spots, Cape Cod, and breathe in the sea air of the New England coast.

Day 2

Boston

Room only

Founded by the Puritans in 1630, Boston is one of the oldest cities in the United States and is steeped in history. To immerse yourself in its past, head to Boston Common and the start of the Freedom Trail; a 2.5 mile path through downtown Boston which takes you past the city’s most iconic landmarks. You’ll see some incredible sights, including the Old North Church, Paul Revere’s home, Faneuil Hall and the USS Constitution, the oldest U.S. naval warship which is docked in Boston Harbour.

Day 3

Boston – Salem – Portsmouth – Kennebunkport

North of Boston, there are more historic towns and incredible beaches and coastline to discover. 

Head to the historic town of Salem, the home of the famous witch trials. From there, the delightful port towns of Rockport and Gloucester are just a pleasant drive along the coast. Cross the border from Massachusetts into New Hampshire and explore the quaint seaside town of Portsmouth before continuing to Maine. Our first stop in the ‘Pine Tree State’ will be Kennebunkport, a popular resort with tranquil beaches and a thriving arts scene which makes it a favourite among artists and writers.

Day 4

Kennebunkport – Wiscasset – Bar Harbour

Drive past the crashing waves and rugged shoreline of the Maine coast to the town of Bar Harbour. As you pass through charming fishing villages and see boats and buoys bobbing in the harbour, now is the perfect time to try some of New England’s most famous dishes; a steaming cup of clam chowder or freshly caught lobster.

Bar Harbour – Acadia National Park – Bar Harbour

Experience some of North America’s most spectacular natural landscapes up close, by spending the day at Acadia National Park, one of the oldest in the United States. Feast your eyes on crystal clear lakes, magnificent glaciers and impressive mountains, and see the only true fjord on the Atlantic Coast.

Enjoy great views from Park Loop Road or, to see the park at its most splendid, drive to the summit of Cadillac Mountain, which at 466 metres is the highest point on the Atlantic Seaboard.

Bar Harbour – White Mountains

Your tour of New England’s natural wonders continues today as you drive inland past dense forests and head for the White Mountains. Here, you’ll see many distinctive covered bridges which characterise the landscape and make an ideal spot to sit out a surprise rain shower.

Day 7

White Mountains – Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom – Stowe

Take the scenic route through the White Mountains and along the border of New Hampshire and Vermont, enjoying unrivalled views of the scenery as you go. When you reach the town of Greensboro, drop into the old fashioned hardware store, Willey’s General Store, which has been trading since 1900 and is a firm favourite with locals and visitors alike. Continue your journey to Stowe via idyllic Craftsbury, a charming village with white picket fences, green hills and pretty farms, so picturesque it could be from a painting.

Day 8

Stowe – Green Mountains – The Berkshires

Vermont is famed for its lush, green mountains and today you can see them in all their glory as you drive along Route 100. The forests here are home to an abundance of wildlife, including bears, wild turkey, moose and deer. The beautiful panoramas continue as you cross back into Massachusetts and enter The Berkshires, a mountainous region in western Massachusetts and an area of outstanding natural beauty. Spend the evening in Williamstown, home to historic Williams College.

The Berkshires – Lenox – Newport

As you make your way south from The Berkshires to Newport, stop off in pretty Lenox, which is the summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Visit Hancock Shaker Village in nearby Pittsfield to see the Shaker values brought to life at this former commune before driving crossing the border into Rhode Island and arriving in the seaside city of Newport.

Newport – Cape Cod

Cape Cod

Cape Cod is an area of unrivalled natural beauty. This delightful peninsula is home to towering cliffs, sweeping sand dunes, picturesque beaches and quaint villages, which serve fresh, local seafood all day long. It’s little wonder ‘the Cape’ is such a popular holiday spot.

While in the area, visit Plymouth, a town where the country’s pilgrim and colonial past can be felt and seen in its historical buildings. You can also see the Mayflower II; a replica of the original 17th century ship, Mayflower, which transported pilgrims to the New World.
