As fun as it is to travel the world with family or friends, there is something incredibly life-changing about globetrotting alone. Solo holidays give you the freedom to explore your chosen destinations at your own pace and have the flexibility to pick and choose all the activities you would like to do. With this type of adventure, see yourself transform as you follow your heart and discover the things you truly love.
Make no mistake, single traveller holidays are a fabulous way to switch off and reconnect with yourself, but they also provide a wonderful opportunity to make friends with like-minded solo travellers and take advantage of some incredible group tours.
Spontaneity creates the best kind of solo travel adventures…
India is one of our top solo holiday destinations for those looking to immerse themselves in history and culture. Our India Golden Triangle Tours are a great way to visit iconic cities such as Delhi, Agra and Jaipur with the help of an expert guide who has all the insider insights! Whether you choose to explore alone or as part of a group, wander in awe at the abundance of beautifully designed palaces, tombs and temples. The iconic Taj Mahal is a bucket list must and we highly recommend visiting the marble mausoleum that shines bright like a beacon upon the banks of Yamuna.
South America is a popular option for solo holidays. We have an epic two-week Highlights of South America Tour, a great way to see all the top spots of South America without having to worry about how to travel and where to go. See vast differences between all the well-known cities such as Lima and Cuzco in Peru, Buenos Aires in Argentina and Rio De Janeiro in Brazil. Grab your backpack, join other solo travellers and take a train through Sacred Valley and head for the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu where you can splendour at one of the greatest wonders of the world.
There is nothing better than being able to see two or more of your dream destinations in one on a solo holiday. Our Multi Centre trips give you the option to blend city visits with nature trails or history lessons with beach parties, whatever your preference, the world is your oyster.

Top Tips from our Experts

In Bangkok, don’t be afraid to use a tuk tuk. They may look chaotic, and a law unto themsleves, however they are also a super cheap way of getting around. They are more manoeuvrable than taxis, and culturally speaking, barring long-tail boats, there is no better way of seeing this amazing capital.

Avoid the touristy bustle of Bourbon Street and head for quieter spots, especially when hunger strikes. New Orleans is a haven for foodies, so iIndulge in some signature dishes like soft-shelled crab or a peanut butter and bacon burger, sip coffee with beignets for breakfast, and for lunch take out the city sandwich of choice: the Po’boy.

In the Dominican Republic, the locals will use any excuse for a good party. Get into the spirit with a cuba libre servicio; a small bottle of rum, a coke and a cup of ice and dance the merengue in the clubs along Santo Domingo’s boardwalk.

Frequently asked questions
What is solo travel?
Solo travel means exploring the world mostly by yourself. It does not mean you are constantly alone, you may well travel with others for large periods of time during your journey. You may meet up with friends or family along the way. You may also make new friends and acquaintances on tours and excursions. However, a solo traveller is largely self-sufficient and independent, travelling at their own pace and leisure. This is one of the biggest draws of solo travel; it allows you to discover the world and re-discover yourself.
Where's best for solo female travellers?
Some places will be safer than others, and even safe countries require a level-headed approach to personal safety and travel. Canada and the USA, especially Hawaii, Dubai, China, Japan and Thailand are relatively easy places for solo female travel.
Is solo travel safe?
Solo travel is safe if you stay within your limitations. The constant question posed by many solo travellers is whether the risk you take is worth the reward you’ll get in return. Don’t get into something you can’t get out of. If you’re not sure, stick to well-worn routes. Remember, the farther you venture off the beaten path, the further from communication you will be. Fellow travellers you meet in cafes and bars are a good source of up-to-date information. Check both Foreign Office and local weather reports. Notify friends or family back home of your intentions and, most importantly, when you do roam, always trust your instincts. If it looks risky, then it probably is.
