Ride up to the top of the striking CN Tower and dine at the 360 restaurant, or see a colourful show in the theatre district. Perhaps you’ll be tempted by a stroll in a leafy park followed by a visit one of the city’s 7,000 or so bars before settling down for a good night’s sleep.
You’ll kick off your second day meeting your travel companions over breakfast. It’s time then to embark on a sightseeing tour of this dynamic city, with your first stop at the impressive Legislative Assembly buildings. Heading down to the waterfront, take in the iconic CN Tower and admire the watery views. After a visit to the colourful Chinatown, it’s time to head out of the city towards the world-famous natural wonder, the Niagara Falls.
You’ll be driven along the shores of Lake Ontario toward the US border. Sit back and absorb the views and varied neighbourhoods as you rest your legs after a morning on your feet. Once you’ve admired the waterfalls and taken plenty of snaps, you’ll have the opportunity to take part in activities such as a casino visit or a trip up to the Skylon Tower observation deck.
If you haven’t had time to see everything you hoped to in Toronto, don’t worry – there’ll still be some time on the last day to squeeze in more adventures before your flight home.
Toronto - Ottawa
It’s time to head east to Canada’s capital city. We’ll leave the hotel after breakfast and start the drive towards Ottawa, which is around 250 miles away. Our route follows the rivers and lakes of the Rideau Canal – a UNESCO World Heritage site – through peaceful farmland.
Once in Ottawa, we’ll take an in-depth tour of this vibrant city where you can get a good feel for your surroundings. Take in the Parliament Hill government buildings, which sit on the southern banks of the Ottawa River. You’ll also head to the City Hall with its contrasting heritage and modern wings. At the shopper’s paradise, the ByWard Market, you can pick up some souvenirs for friends at home before relaxing in the scenic Major’s Hill Park, which runs alongside the river.
Ottawa - Quebec City
French-speaking Canada is calling, with day four taking you further east along the banks of the Ottawa River toward Quebec City. The route follows the base of the spectacular Laurentian Mountains, taking the Chemin du Roy expressway. Look out for the iconic route markers as you pass by traditional Quebecois villages.
In Quebec City, take a tour of the old city, a UNESCO World Heritage site enclosed within five impressive gates dating back to the 17th century. Wander down the cobblestone streets of Lower Town and view the Citadelle - an active military base towering high over the St Lawrence River - and the adjacent Battlefields Park.
Day five is free for you to spend as you wish. Explore the delights of this historically fascinating city, perhaps returning to the old town and touring the turreted Le Château Frontenac, or visiting the museums and galleries of the picturesque Petit-Champlain district. Have fun practising your French on friendly locals as you order mouth-watering bagels and cheesy poutine in top quality eateries.
Take the funicular railway to go from the Old Upper and Lower Town, opening up lovely views over St Lawrence River. If you’d rather take a boat ride, you can choose the day’s excursion to Tadoussac, which includes a three hour whale-watching trip. On the way back, stop off at the awe-inspiring Montmorency Falls, which are even higher than the Niagara Falls visited on day two.
Following in the footsteps of earlier settlers, your tour continues east along the St Lawrence River to Montreal, the world’s second largest Francophone city and a true traveller’s delight. This artistic destination provides a French flavour, as well as an irresistible food scene combining patisseries, English pubs and Parisian-style markets that you can explore during your stay.
Take a tour starting at the 1976 Olympic Park then drop into historic Old Montreal. The itinerary then takes you along 17th century cobblestone streets, which are filled with classy cafes and high-end restaurants. Stop by the prestigious McGill University and the hilly Mount Royal district during your tour of this vibrant city.
Today it’s time to head back to Toronto via Rockport, where you’ll have the option of taking a relaxing cruise in the 1000 Islands before heading back to the city. Alternatively, return straight to Toronto, where you can spend your last day on any final purchases or ticking off those sites you missed during your first stop here. The popular Royal Ontario Museum is filled with fascinating objects and information from the art, culture and history worlds. You can also take a brewery or distillery tour followed by a concert at the Roy Thomson Hall. Shopping fans won’t want to miss out on a trip to CF Shops at Don Mills for the ultimate Canadian mall experience.
