About Bali
Bali has beautiful mountains, green landscape, rice paddy fields and miles of golden sandy beaches. There's only one word for it. Mesmerising. Bali is really something special blending colour, culture and traditions. You can see its religious influence throughout its decorative temples, native dances, festivals and unforgettable costumes. Its artistic way of life is simply captivating. This is truly a remarkable place to holiday.
Our Travellers Guide
Bali’s beaches are great for action or plain relaxation; the south’s white sandy beaches of Kuta, Sanur and Nusa Dua being the most popular. The fishing boats, which line Jimbaran beach offer the perfect waterfront view.
Sports
Attracting adventure seekers from around the world, Bali offers activities from white water rafting down the Ayung River to scuba diving in the south coast's crystal clear lagoons. For windsurfers, the east of Bali has some wild waves and you can also play golf, tennis and go mountain biking along the Batur Trail.
Local tastes
The food here is delicious with specialities including roasted suckling pig, broiled lobster and a variety of fresh Far East seafood. For a street snack, try mie goring, fried noodles topped with an egg, or chicken satay, cooked in a spicy peanut sauce. Tropical fruit is a popular snack or dessert.
Evening flavour
For the ultimate party atmosphere, Kuta has waterfront surf bars and discos with expat bars further along the coast in Legian and Seminyak. In Jimbaran, sunset bars line the beach or head to Ubud for live shows, percussion music and traditional Balinese dances.
Best buys
You’ll find local handicrafts, jewellery, woodcarvings, leather goods and duty-free bargains. The markets at Kuta and Sanur are great for unusual souvenirs or take a look at beautiful batiks and bamboo works in Ubud. There are shopping malls with designer clothes and department stores in Nusa Dua and Bali’s capital, Denpasar.

Take an off road Jeep Safari through the heart of the northwestern region of the island. Catch a glimpse of the playful monkeys at Alas Kedaton Monkey Forest and watch the sunset from the famous Tanah Lot temple, built on a huge rock outcrop in the sea.
