The 118 Islands of Tahiti are some of the most beautiful destinations in the world, and perfect for a relaxed holiday. Grouped into five archipelagos - the Austral, Gambier, Marquesas, Society and Tuamotu - Tahiti holidays are perfect for couples and families looking for that once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Also known as French Polynesia, holidays in the Islands of Tahiti offer heavenly blue waters, picture-perfect sandy beaches, lush forestry and shallow lagoons. The waters around them are protected UNESCO Biosphere Reserves, with an abundance of varied marine life.
Explored by Captain James Cook in the 18th century, you can go scuba diving or snorkelling to see manta rays, sharks, turtles and dolphins up close, or book a boat cruise aboard a luxury vessel. The Tahiti islands are the ideal place for island-hopping and getting a flavour of each area.
The islands of Tahiti holidays: simply paradise
Rest your head in a floating overwater villa at secluded Bora Bora with breakfast personally delivered by canoe. Spend the day taking a 4x4 tour of Mount Pahia, the island's beautiful waterfalls and taking a dip in one of the freshwater pools. Uncover the splendour of Moorea Island with a visit to its fragrant vanilla plantations, a scenic walk through its volcanic landscapes, and finish up on the romantic Opunohu Bay, which is surrounded by peaks and greenery.
Why not join a Tahiti tour and discover the capital, Papeete? It’s famous for its pearl farm, lively markets and nearby Mount Orohena.
For a more remote experience, take a boat trip to Raiatea and Tahaa Islands and witness the incredible coral reefs, marine life, and fruit plantations.
Located between the United States and Australia, Tahiti Island holidays are ideally paired with a city for a multi-centre holiday. Stop off for a city break in Japan or San Francisco before flying over to your Pacific retreat. Once you’ve reached the islands of Tahiti, you can take a short flight or travel by boat to visit neighbouring spots, or sign up for one of our Tahiti tours.

“Air Tahiti flies to 47 of the islands of Tahiti, making it a great way to get between them. For a more scenic and slower way to travel, you can also island-hop by boat. Tahiti is the only island with public transport, so when you’re on the islands, the best way to get around is with a hire car or your own scooter.”

“Keen hikers will be in paradise on the islands of Tahiti. Take trails past the impressive waterfalls and dip into the freshwater pools below to cool off. The coastline is also great for trekking. It’s home to over 100 species of birds, as well as tropical flowers. In the ocean there are giant turtles, tiger sharks, dolphins, and lemon sharks.”
