Stunning!!!

New York City, New York

The Post Ranch Inn, is certainly one of my favorite hotels in the world, featuring architecture as stunning as it’s ocean views. The 40 guest rooms and suites are nestled along the ridge and range in design from tree houses to butterfly-shaped structures. Each structure on the 100-acre property was built using natural materials and green building techniques. The hotel is also the home of the Sierra Mar Restaurant, which boasts spectacular panoramas and a wine cellar with over 14,000 bottles and sublime, superb cuisine. Don't miss the meditation and yoga classes, as well as guided hikes and nightly star gazing.

Mind the fog...

London, United Kingdom

This is given a 3.5 rating which is disappointing as this was meant to be the highlight of our trip but disappointed on a few counts, some out of control of the hotel some well within. Our 2-night trip started on the back foot. As the people were late checking out of our room we were told our room wouldn’t be ready for 30-mins so we went for lunch in Sierra Mar (a fantastic restaurant reviewed separately) and were told we would be contacted when the room was ready. Our bags were taken and would be taken to the room. However, after sitting round a hot tub/ pool in the hot sun in the clothes we travelled in it was 4hrs after checking in that our room was finally ready and we didn’t even get an apology. Incredible! We stayed in an Upper Pacific Suite which it has to be said is a lovely room. Well adorned, spacious, mini-bar well stocked and a terrace with a hot tub, loungers, chairs and a lovely view over the Pacific. WiFi when working was good but at times was patchy and non-existent outside the room (including the gym). The gym is small but practical 5 CV machines then free weights and a weight machine. It is air conditioned and if there are only one or two of you in there then it works well. Having been to the gym early on our second morning and had breakfast our plan was to chill out on our terrace. Then the fog came in early morning and it stayed. Despite hope it may be gone by 1pm it stayed all day. Having enjoyed some of the contents of the mini-bar we couldn’t drive somewhere else so our options were limited and having spent $3k a night didn’t really want to then pay even more for an expensive spa treatment. There was very little to do than sit in our room and hope the fog lifted (it was still there when we walked back from dinner quite late). I know the hotel can’t control the weather but when you pay so much to stay somewhere so nice it is very frustrating and more so that there are very few activities within the hotel to occupy your time. Combined with our checking-in experience what was meant to the jewel in the crown for our special road trip turned out quite the opposite and really felt extremely poor value for money. Chatting to some of the waiting staff it also appears this weather can be common in other times of the year as well as mid-August so please do your research before booking.
