Looking for a perfect island paradise? You’ll find it in Koh Phangan, situated in the Gulf of Thailand. Experience this idyllic tropical cocktail of stunning sandy beaches, swaying palm trees, lush green jungles and clear turquoise waters. Like all of Thailand’s many islands, Koh Phangan has its own unique character that will draw you back again and again.
You might wish to plan your Koh Phangan holidays around attending the legendary monthly Full Moon Parties held at Haad Rai, but the real focus of this beautiful island is its allure for relaxation. Luxurious Koh Phangan hotels and resorts are tucked away in quiet corners that offer delightful spa escapes and yoga retreats. Of course, even if you choose a retreat holiday, there will always be plenty of time for you to lie in a hammock with your book, enjoying the perfect Koh Phangan weather without a care in the world. Bliss.
The tropical island paradise of Koh Phangan
When you have had your fill of relaxation, why not hire a scooter and explore the forested interior? There are some very beautiful waterfalls away from the beach. There are hiking trails if you wish to enjoy the great outdoors and, if you’re feeling like some adventure then there are a number of zipline treetop adventure centres in and around Koh Phangan.
It is quite remote but the journey to Bottle Beach is worth the effort, whether by boat taxi from Chaloklum Beach or on a scooter if you are confident.
Spend a day snorkelling in secluded coves as you traverse the coastline by boat. Part of the Chumphon archipelago, Koh Samui to Koh Phangan is only a short boat ride, and some of the best diving in Thailand is to be found at Koh Tao, which is similarly very accessible.
It’s easy to reach Koh Phangan so why not consider including this destination in your next Thailand itinerary? After a few days of sightseeing and shopping in the vibrant capital city, you can travel from Bangkok to Koh Phangan by train and ferry. Alternatively, you can fly to the nearest airport on the neighbouring island of Koh Samui.

Events & Festivals
Festivals and events are wonderful to include during your Koh Phangan holiday, offering a glimpse into the country’s authentic culture and traditions.
Full Moon Parties
If you’re planning to visit Koh Phangan then you will likely have heard of the hedonistic Full Moon Parties, which take place at the beach of Haad Rai each month during the full moon, obviously. But there are also parties taking place at beach bars for the Half Moon and Black Moon, so you are sure to be able to fit at least one of these free-spirited beach gatherings during your Koh Phagnan holidays.
Local Cuisine
Get a flavour of the local culture through your palate during your Koh Phagnan holiday.
Be sure to taste Koh Phangan's special snacks. Called No Names, these spicy little fritters are served with a delicate dipping sauce and are perfect with a cold Chang beer or a coconut and pineapple milkshake – bliss. You’re sure to find some of these at the Thong Sala Night Market.
