Destination Executive

"My favourite place to spend an afternoon in Khao Lak is Memories Bar. It’s located just next to Apsara, and is open between September – April. It’s a lively spot with great food and lots of leisure activities such as volleyball, surfing – even Thai cooking classes. After the sun goes down, dancing and fire shows on the beach commence. Great fun – and all ages welcome."

Always exceeding your expectations

As always, Apsara never disappoints me. Stayed for a couple of nights and it was indeed a place where you can have a relaxing vacation. The grounds are tidy and beautiful, the beach is immaculate, the hotel pools refreshing as usual and the service is beyond great heights where they will ask if everything is alright when all is right. LOL. The breakfast buffet is plentiful and we tried the Zeus restaurant and it did not disappoint our tummies. The room service was perfect and the room condition is well-suited for us, it was the best sleep we had in ages. Overall all review, FANTASTIC. No words to describe, the Front office team made everything great even the service team in the restaurant. Thanks to Mr. Golf, any request you should find him in the reception, always willing to help. Will be back soon.

The best has got better.

Weymouth, United Kingdom

We returned to Apsara Beachfront Resort and Villas at the end of March 2019 after spending a fantastic holiday there in March 2016. In 2016, we were lucky enough to be upgraded to a pool villa as the pool access rooms that we booked were overbooked. As we both have significant birthdays and wedding anniversary this year, we decided to push the boat out and booked a pool villa for our return visit. My review from 2016 is still available entitled “Simply stunning” by clicking my name on the left and looking at my other reviews. Everything I said then still stand with a few improvements and so I won’t repeat myself and only comment on the improvements. One of my few criticisms before was about the All inclusive package and some confusion about what was included. I am pleased to say that this has been addressed and every bar now has a number of all inclusive bar menus which clearly show what is available. With 29 different cocktails, not to mention a number of mocktails, there is plenty of choice. My only disappointment this time is that there is not a brandy on the list, not even a cheap Thai substitute. I have travelled all over the world and this is the only place that I have not been able to get a brandy with my after dinner coffee. Another criticism last time was that the only place you could get drinks if you stayed on the resort side was at the Ila all inclusive bar. This bar was indoors, very hot and very busy. I am pleased to say that there is now a new outdoor bar in front of the restaurant which is much better. This also meant that the Ila bar was not so busy and, if they closed the doors to take full advantage of the air conditioning, there would be somewhere to go to get some respite from the heat. If you stay on the villa side and have a blue all inclusive band you can use all the bars which all have the AI menus prominently displayed. As part of the AI package you get one visit to one of the a la carte restaurants each week. Last time we went to Zeus bar and were very disappointed with the service. Again this is very much improved with great food, great service and plenty of free flowing wine. When we stayed last time, we did not realise that we could also eat at the Napalai restaurant as part of the all inclusive (villa guests only). This time we ate there most nights and occasionally for lunch if we missed breakfast. As at the Zeus restaurant, there is a slightly smaller all inclusive menu but which contained most things that you could want including Thai, Italian and other European dishes including steak. The food was fantastic. As every dish is freshly cooked, there is a small wait for your food but I preferred that because it meant that you could let your previous course go down before starting the next. We used the Kinnaree buffet restaurant a few times which, as last time, was excellent. As many reviewers have said, the main asset of this hotel are the staff. Everyone, whether bar staff, restaurant staff, cleaners, gardeners, porters etc, are friendly and always have a happy, smiley, cheerful welcome. One standout member of staff was Emee at reception, super friendly, helpful and with a smile to light up any ones day. As at other hotels, the Apsara are trying to improve their environmental impact. At the bars, straws are only given out on request and cardboard or paper drink mats have been replaced with reusable cloth ones. Poolside drinks are served in reusable plastic glasses and water comes in glass bottles. In your rooms, towels and bed linen are only changed on request. However, a few things had not been properly thought out. The water bottles had ring pull tops meaning that once open they could not be resealed for carrying or saved for later use. In the bathroom, only hooks were provided to hang towels on instead of a towel rail which would mean you could hang towels up to dry and reuse. To sum up, the Apsara is a beautiful resort in a stunning setting. Peace and tranquillity is the theme here, so not good for party people. Clean, well equipped rooms or villas in beautiful gardens, great food and drink and the most friendly and helpful staff you could wish for make this the perfect place for a peaceful holiday.
