Located off the coast of Newfoundland in ‘Iceberg Alley’, this striking feat of contemporary architecture has been designed as a unique and modern take on a traditional Atlantic Canadian outpost - with its stilts and angles, contrasting fascinatingly with the rough slabs of ancient granite and crashing waves that surround it.

While stark and jagged angles dominate the outside design, inside the Inn combines modern architecture with traditional furnishings – which are all locally produced. Featuring just 29 exclusive guest suites, all with floor to ceiling windows offering fantastic views of the iceberg-littered Atlantic Ocean.

Other amenities include a vaulted-ceiling dining room and adjacent lounge offering exceptional gastronomic experiences and crafted cocktails ‘shaken or stirred’ over Atlantic iceberg ice. Enjoy a film in the ‘Magic Picture Box’ cinema or experience the rooftop deck which houses wood-fired saunas and outdoor hot tubs with unparalleled vistas of the ocean by day and breath taking starry skies by night.

Newfoundland's incredible seven seasons consist of warm summers, snowy winters, a spectacular ice season, hopeful spring, June's trap berth season, bountiful wild berry picking in fall's berry season, and a temperamental late fall - all lending to unique and fascinating adventures to be enjoyed.

Outdoor Adventures

Discover adventure unlike anywhere else in Canada. Newfoundland & Labrador's diverse and striking landscapes are the perfect backdrop for heading out and exploring. Enjoy a hike to watch the floating icebergs in early Spring, head out on a traditional working fishing boat and spot migrating whales or take a guided walk along the rocky shores, stopping at the unique small galleries dotted around the island. With so many unique experiences to be had - the only problem will be finding the time to enjoy them all.

Rooftop Sauna & Hot Tubs

Relax after a long day of exploring the Island by visiting the fourth floor rooftop deck - which houses the Inn’s wood-fired saunas and two outdoor hot tubs. Whether you choose the south-facing saunas with their direct sunlight and inland views over the rocks or chose the north which has views of the sea and is a great way to take in the landscape or to stargaze. After the sauna, cool off and maybe head outside to the hot tubs to watch the sea by day and at night, the incredible display of stars.

Library

Located on the first floor of the Inn, the Inn's cozy and comfortable library features an extensive collection of fiction and non-fiction pertaining to the fascinating history and culture of Newfoundland and Canada and is available for use by Inn guests as well as the general public of Fogo Island. With six public wood-burning fireplaces, this space is quiet and intimate and perfect for putting your feet up and relaxing after a busy day's exploring.

Cinema

Designed by Nick Herder, Fogo Island Inn’s 37-seat 'Magic Picture Box” cinema is an independent box that sits within the greater building, and features a state-of-the-art digital projection and sound system. The cinema doubles as lecture theatre, and presents daily scheduled programming as well as impromptu special film showings and presentations. The program schedule will typically include documentaries chronicling resettlement, rural life, craftsmanship, and culture. The Inn’s collection includes classic documentaries, films about Fogo Island, as well as a healthy collection of crowd-pleasing contemporary blockbusters and cult classics.

Room Types

Fogo Island Inn features 29 guest suites and five suite types that showcase the richness of their locality and express a modern take on the traditional Newfoundland outport design and décor that makes the Inn famous. All rooms are light and airy with floor-to-ceiling windows with spectacular views of the wild North Atlantic Ocean.

Included in every stay is a half day orientation with the Inn's Community Host, full use of all facilities within the Inn: Cinema screenings, Sauna, contemporary Art Gallery, Gym, and Heritage Library as well as bicycles for independent exploration and use of storm weather gear and rubber boots.

Intimate nests for up to two guests are on either the 1st, 2nd and 3rd floors; each offering different magnificent views of the rocky coastline and Atlantic Ocean. All rooms feature bold, contemporary and handmade furnishings, wood stoves, heated wooden floors as well as walk-in showers, robes, slippers, books, locally sourced toiletries and free included Wi-Fi. Dining at Fogo Island is truly a one-of-a-kind gastronomic experience, with an ever-changing menu depending on the seven distinct seasons and is consistently a celebration of the island.

The Kitchen Collective take inspiration from traditional outport cuisine and work around the clock to create inspired dishes with local ingredients harvested from island’s peaty soils, salt-sprayed shorelines and wild-berry patches. Everything coming out of the Inn’s first-floor kitchen is house made: from caribou sausages and pickled quail eggs, to grainy mustards, and berry-jewelled breakfast scones.

The Inn is a non-tipping social enterprise with pricing for rooms, food, and alcohol all being inclusive of a 15% contribution to the staff bonus pool.

Dining Room Restaurant

One of the Inn’s most iconic spaces, the Dining Room features a dramatic vaulted ceiling, distinctive chandeliers and floor-to-ceiling windows with unparalleled vistas of sunsets and storms, icebergs bobbing in the waves or even front-row views of whales breaching offshore. It is the perfect setting to enjoy the exceptionally creative dishes created by the Kitchen using only the finest locally-sourced ingredients.

Bar & Lounge

Gather in lounge’s intimate and cosy space, with wood-burning fires, ideal for catching up and sharing tales with other guests before and after dinner. The bar features a signature line of new Newfoundland cocktails which play off of longstanding traditions and combine them with new techniques. The Inn’s beverage team are constantly dreaming up new creations using the flavours of the Island: garnishes such as Fogo Island berries, juniper-infused syrup, and dried wildflower petals are often ready at hand. The bar carries almost any spirit you can imagine, including Newfoundland Screech, and cocktails can often be found shaken or stirred over iceberg ice depending on the season.
