Things to Know before you travel to Zanzibar

• There are no direct flights from London to Zanzibar. There are, however, multiple flights from various destinations in Tanzania into Zanzibar.
• Though Swahili is the official language, residents of Zanzibar speak English, Arabic, French and Italian.
• Zanzibar has a tropical climate, so pack clothes made of breathable fabrics such as cotton, linen and bamboo. While you can wear whatever you like on your hotel property, it’s advisable to wear modest clothing that covers the shoulders and comes up to your knees while stepping out into town. 
• The Tanzanian Shilling is the local currency, but dollars are widely accepted throughout the island.
