Mexico – Things to do

Mexico Attractions

You get an incredible insight into the ancient world of the Americas when you visit Mexico. With over 30 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, the iconic Chichen Itza and its amazing light show is only the start. You’ll uncover vibrant street scenes and the baroque Catedral Metropolitana in Mexico City and – if you’re into diving – some amazing underwater treasures in Cozumel and Playa Mujeres.

Ancient Mayan History

Mexico’s Mayan Riviera is home to one of the ‘New Seven Wonders of the World’ – the mystical Chichen Itza. One of the most visited Yucatan Mayan sites, it’s been standing for over 1,000 years. Visit in spring or autumn to watch as shadows depict a snake slithering its way up the limestone steps to El Castillo. There’s also Tulum; what was once an important trading port is now a historic site open to the public. Wander the walled city, imagining the natives who once lived in the caste and worshipped in the temple.

Snorkel and dive down coral reefs

There are just as many adventures to be had underwater as there are on land. Don your snorkelling gear and explore the coast, or join an organised trip to even deeper waters. On the shores of fishing village Puerto Morelos the coral reef is often a mere six feet below the surface. Keep your goggles clean to spot rays, barracudas and turtles. There are domed caves filled with beautiful stalactites and stalagmites to explore at Tak Be Ha and Hilario’s Well. The brave can even swim with whale sharks – the largest fish on the planet. During the summer hundreds inhabit in the warm waters near Cancun.
