A city full of unforgettable beauty, stunning gardens and captivating Victorian-era buildings. A city centred around the sea and soaked in nature. This is Victoria, the historic capital of British Columbia. Discover it all and find yourself enchanted by the city’s nature, culture and old English charm during your Victoria holiday.
Take to two wheels and explore the city by bike; why not start with a visit to Fisherman’s Wharf? Admire the quaint homes that float on the water alongside the pier with the sea as their back garden, and indulge in a plate of fish and chips, caught and cooked fresh by one of the pier’s eateries. Juxtapose the rustic Fisherman’s Wharf with the luxurious Empress Hotel as you devour its famed Afternoon Tea, then make your way to Craigdarroch Castle, an impressive Victorian mansion built in the late 1800s.
Victoria: a city rooted in nature
Known as the City of Gardens, Victoria’s link with the natural world is just as strong as the rest of the island’s. It’s far from a concrete jungle; the abundant Victorian architecture acts as the backdrop for some incredible areas of nature. Head to Butchart Gardens, an oasis of immaculately landscaped and endlessly colourful gardens, and explore the walking trails around beautiful Beacon Hill Park, passing by the peacocks that roam the park. Sitting on the coast of an island also means that Victoria is ripe for water-based adventures. Take a whale watching trip and witness the majestic mammals delight in their natural habitat, or explore the harbour and surrounding waters by kayak.
Continue your Victoria holiday and discover the rest of Vancouver Island, where a world of abundant wildlife and stunning landscapes await. Hike through lush forests, passing by waterfalls as you go, explore the island’s captivating coastal village of Tofino, and visit the Pacific Rim National Park.
