Victoria, Australia Holidays
Holidays in Victoria take you to Australia’s southernmost point. The state offers everything you could want in a holiday destination: cosmopolitan cities and quaint towns, extraordinary coasts and fabulous beaches. You can even go skiing.
Melbourne, the state capital, is Australia’s city of culture and one of the most enchanting metropolises in the Southern Hemisphere. Here you’ll find world-class galleries and cutting-edge restaurants, along with the vibrant cafe culture you find in the world’s warmer spots. It’s a great location from which to explore the rest of the state.
Victoria holidays: Australia’s southern beauty
The Great Ocean Road is an iconic highway that hugs Victoria’s coastline. Built by (and dedicated to) soldiers of the First World War, it’s the largest war memorial on earth. En route you’ll take in pretty coves and charming towns, including Torquay, which has superb surf beaches. Among the highlights of your road trip are the mighty 12 Apostles, a series of vast limestone stacks rising from the sea bed.
During your Victoria holiday, a trip to the Grampians is a must. These sandstone mountain ranges offer excellent hiking and unforgettable views. The nearby Goldfields region is perfect if you have an interest in history. Thousands of prospectors arrived here in the 1850s to seek their fortune.
Wine enthusiasts shouldn’t miss Yarra Valley, which produces some superb Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
And for a day at the beach, Phillip Island is well worth a visit. Keep an eye out for the wild penguins that live along the coast.
