Port Douglas Holidays

Situated just one hour from the city of Cairns, the laid-back marina town of Port Douglas is an unexpected gem. Nestled between two UNESCO World Heritage sites, The Great Barrier Reef and the Wet Tropics, Port Douglas holidays are drenched in natural beauty, with lush green rainforests, colourful reefs and beautiful beaches that stretch for miles.

The tropical adventures begin on Captain Cook Highway, with the drive from Cairns to Port Douglas offering a scenic coastal route that will undoubtedly take your breath away. As you reach the town you’ll find roads fringed with palm trees leading to a strip of stylish restaurants, bars, cafes, boutiques, bookshops and galleries. At the end of the main street, you’ll see St Mary's, a picturesque chapel that looks out to sea, along with Anzac Park, an idyllic sunset spot for picnics and social gatherings.

Local Cuisine

Get a flavour of the local culture through your palate during your Port Douglasholiday. Port Douglas cuisine ranges from staple Aussie dishes, such as the classic meat pie or parmy and chips, to flavoursome tropical produce and fresh-off-the-boat seafood, locally-sourced and packed full of multicultural flavours. Served al fresco or with a tropical twist, there is no doubt, Port Douglas’s local cuisine will be a major highlight of your Port Douglas holiday. Here are a few of our favourite dishes.

  • Coconuts

From beach to street, you’ll see coconuts everywhere in Port Douglas. At Port Douglas markets you can order a fresh coconut to drink and then return it to the stall for brunch. The vendors then crack open the shell, slice up the coconut meat inside to make it fluffy, fill one half with a home-grown rocket and tomato salad dressed with tamari, and the other half with squishy ripe banana and sweet coconut syrup. It’s delicious

  • Meat Pie

An Aussie meat pie usually contains diced or minced meat and gravy, with onions, mushrooms, or cheese blended into the filling. Aussie meat pies are a snack you’ll find everywhere from bakeries to servos (service stations) and supermarkets. Mocka’s Pie Shop is a popular pit stop for locals visiting Port Douglas.

  • Sugarcane Juice

With over 20 different varieties of cane growing in the area, sugarcane juice is a local treat you can try at either Port Douglas or Mossman markets. Jump on a peddle bike and squeeze your own sugarcane juice. This refreshing treat is best enjoyed with crushed ice and a splash of lemon.
