One of the world's most legendary prisons
Once home to some of the world's most notorious criminals, Alcatraz is as fascinating as it is eerie, and should be at the top of your San Francisco itinerary.
As one of history's most legendary prisons, Alcatraz operated from 1934 to 1963 and was the final stop for some of the very worst outlaws. America's premier maximum-security prison back when it was operating, Alcatraz's walls held the likes of Al 'Scarface' Capone and the 'Birdman' Robert Stroud imprisoned once upon a time, and the island itself has appeared in numerous Hollywood blockbusters including The Rock and Catch Me If You Can.
Today, you can visit Alcatraz Island to learn more about the prison's extensive, creepy history, and to see the remains of the abandoned penitentiary. Getting to the prison is simple: jump on a ferry for a 20-minute ride, and arrive at the island ready for your tour that will offer a unique insight into one of the USA's most famous landmarks.
We offer trips to Alcatraz as part of combination package featuring either a Hop On Hop Off Bus Tour (48 hours) of San Francisco, or including a Hop On Hop Off (24 hour) Cable Car experience. These combination packages offer an ideal way to explore the city and take in one of the most iconic sights in California.
