WATER-BASED EXPLORATIONS
BOAT OR CANOE 
SAFARIS  
Boat safaris on Africa’s rivers 
will take you near wallowing 
hippos and sunbathing 
crocodiles. You may see 
elephants swimming, playing, 
or herds crossing a river to 
lush feeding grounds. Boat and 
canoe safaris are also excellent 
for spotting an array of resident 
and migratory birdlife.

MOKORO SAFARIS
One of the nicest safari experiences is a mokoro (traditional dugout canoe) ride, which 
takes you places safari vehicles cannot reach. An expert guide poles you through clear 
waters, offering a close-up view of fish, frogs, and birds, as well as larger creatures such 
as elephants or Nile crocodiles along riverbanks.

FLIGHTSEEING AND 
HELICOPTER SAFARI
Board a helicopter or microlight 
aircraft to get a bird’s-eye 
view over vast savannahs, 
watering holes, pools, lagoons, 
and floodplains. As you glide 
through the skies, you’ll spot 
herds of large animals and 
stunning panoramas of normally 
inaccessible places. In Namibia, 
you can even fly over massive 
Cape fur seal colonies.

HOT AIR BALLOON SAFARIS
For an unforgettable perspective on the African wilderness, take a hot air balloon  
ride. Colourful hot air balloons make their way into the sky, over sprawling plains.  
Massive herds of wildebeest and zebra come into view, and maybe your balloon will  
dip a little lower to allow a better sighting of one of the fierce predators of this 
breathtaking landscape.
