Start your Journey
Upon arrival into Nairobi, you will be met and transferred to your hotel for your overnight stay, and the rest of the day is at leisure. Optional excursions to the Daphne Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage or the Karen Blixen Museum with Giraffe Manor are available, please call for details.
Nairobi to Shaba
After an early breakfast, you will head North, passing Thika en route, and drive through some breathtaking scenery.
After Nanyuki town, you'll continue north, eventually reaching a dusty outpost known as Isiolo. From here it's a fairly short hop to Shaba National Reserve. Arrive at your lodge to check in for your two night stay in time for lunch, and enjoy an afternoon game drive.
This morning depart on an early game drive, followed by breakfast at the lodge. Spend time relaxing before heading out for another game drive after lunch. Shaba Game Reserve was made famous by the late Joy Adamson and her lioness Elsa and is often referred to as 'Born Free Country'. The tranquil flow of sparkling spring water throughout the grounds of the Sarova Shaba Lodge creates an atmosphere of peace and serenity and attracts a great variety of birds. There is also a large pool to enjoy and evening entertainment by local Samburu dancers.
Shaba to Lake Nakuru
Travel south from Shaba crossing the northernmost foothills of Mount Kenya. Here you'll head west to Nyahururu, still known to many as Thomson's Falls for its 237-foot cascade. Continue south to Lake Nakuru. Once in the park, there will be a game drive en route. Following lunch, there is an afternoon game drive returning to the lodge for sunset.
Lake Nakuru to Masai Mara
After an early breakfast leave Lake Nakuru for Njoro town, where you will begin your ascent up over the top of the Mau Escarpment. Then travel towards Narok, the gateway to the Masai Mara. You'll travel across the 'breadbasket' of Kenya, covered with acres of wheat and barley, before you reach the Masai Mara in time for lunch. Following lunch there is an afternoon game drive returning to the lodge for sunset.
Early morning and afternoon game drives in the Masai Mara are included today. We highly recommend you pre-book our early morning hot air balloon safari. This gives you a unique, once in a lifetime 'birds eye' viewing experience of the game. Once you have landed back on the ground enjoy a full bush-style breakfast, complete with a table decked in silver cutlery, fresh Kenyan coffee, tea, fruits and champagne all set up in a secluded location. Masai Mara to Nairobi
After breakfast you'll depart the Masai Mara and head across acres of rolling wheat and barley farms to Narok, the district headquarters of this part of Maasailand. From here cross the vast plains on the floor of the Rift Valley whilst keeping an eye out for herds of giraffe and gazelle before heading up the rift escarpment. You'll arrive into Kenya's bustling capital in the early afternoon. Once in the the city transferred to the drop off point or the airport for your onwards travel arrangements.
