Eat breakfast with giraffes

Giraffe Manor must be one of Kenya's best-known hotels, due to the amazing opportunity to share your breakfast with the beautiful free-roaming Rothschild's giraffe. As you dine on your freshly prepared breakfast it is common for the giraffe to pop their heads through an open window to see what's going on, making this a truly unique experience.

The iconic property was built in the 1930s when the desire to experience a safari was just beginning. Situated on 12 acres of private land within 140 acres of forest, this stately home is set on the edge of Nairobi National Park, just outside Kenya's capital city of Nairobi, so it is an excellent place to start or finish your safari holiday.

Manicured grounds and 5-star service make a stay at Giraffe Manor a highlight of any Kenyan holiday. Giraffe Manor has been the subject of several TV shows including BBC2's Amazing Hotels: Life Beyond the Lobby, hosted by restaurant critic Giles Coren and MasterChef judge Monica Galetti.

While the stars of this hotel are undoubtedly the giraffe, as with all wild animal experiences we cannot guarantee their appearance, though they are likely to appear in the early morning and late afternoon/evening before returning to the forest for the night. This is an exceptional hotel that should be enjoyed at least once in your lifetime.

A dream experience!

Sydney, Australia

WOW. What a place. I was lucky enough to be able to stay at Giraffe Manor for 2 nights. Which I will review each night separately. We were picked up from the airport and taken to the Manor. Check in was pretty smooth as we had already filled out all the info at the first place we stayed at Solio. Tony the manager was the best host we could have asked for. Very knowledgeable and friendly. He even remembered our dietary requirements when we arrived back for lunch the second day. We didn't have to bring it up with them. We stayed in Kelly's room. Which is located in the Garden Manor. This was a great room and I was excited as the Giraffes came to feed from the window of our room at Breakfast. The room has a queen bed and a single bed which works well for a family of three. With giraffe food set up at the window sill. Bathroom was great and bed was comfy. I was a little concerned that staying in the garden manor apposed to the main manor would reduce the experience as you also have breakfast in this manor but it is well organised and they know what we are all here for, The giraffes. Even had some clothes washed on the day we arrived and returned within 4 hours before dinner. The first day was a dream, High Tea was so exciting. We were there on Halloween so they had some themed cakes and sweets for the occasion. Dinner was amazing and romantic being on the courtyard with candles. Breakfast was a dream, we woke up at 5.30am and saw the giraffes outside our window ready for a feed. Best morning ever. Breakfast was also great and service amazing. During the day we had we went to the giraffe centre (no extra charge required as we were staying at the manor), the Elephant orphanage and some markets. The driver, Sam was great and knew what was the best places for some shopping and atm. Now, for the second night/ breakfast. mainly for constructive feedback. It was like chalk and cheese. The second high tea was great, but things seemed to go down hill once Tony left for the evening. I think there was a change in staff. It was a quieter night on our second night and the service was lacking. In total comparison to the first night. If we hadn't been there for the previous night we would have thought it was great but knowing what we could have expected from the first it was not what it could be. The dinner staff weren't as attentive, there was confusion as to whether we would get our own drinks or they would get it at dinner, and the feeling of the place wasn't the same. They didn't re-stock our giraffe food in our room and had to ask for some after we had already gone to bed. Washing wasn't delivered back until we asked about it as we were checking out the next morning and needed to pack. Breakfast with the giraffes on the last day was amazing, It was a little bit of a later start than the first day as it was raining, giraffes didn't walk up until about 8am. Cant help that, I know. In saying that, you would then think that the service for the breakfast would be exceptional if there were no giraffes? Again lacking the same as dinner, waited for a long time for service, they forgot to bring toast for my husbands meal so by the time it arrived (after asking) the eggs etc were cold, we had to self service for juice and water (where as the morning before they were waiting on us hand and foot). The giraffes made up for it. Could have stayed there all day feeding them and giving them kisses. If we hadn't stayed for the two nights and only stayed the second night we probably wouldn't have had any issues but knowing what we should have expected from the first night it was so different. High regards to Tony the manager and also staff member Edmund, he was great and loved helping us with learning some Swahili. Asante. Overall, the whole experience was surreal and amazing and will aim to save so I can come and experience the giraffes again. Edd was my favorite and i ended up sponsoring him. I have already received my first newsletter. All meals, drinks, services like laundry, wifi and transfers are included, self service full bar was great. The small shop was great and brought a few things, didn't use the spa (which does have a charge for treatments) The grounds of the place are amazing, loved everything about it. Old world charm. This is definitely a bucket list item that everyone should experience, It is 5 stars all the way. LOVE LOVE LOVE
