Paradise on the Zambezi

Washington DC, District of Columbia

We had a marvelous stay at Victoria Falls River Lodge! Everything is run smoothly and effortlessly, from the pick-up by boat at the 'reception' area on the Zambezi River to the above-average meal services, to the game viewing activities morning and evening. All you need to do is show up. This 'tented' lodge is fairly new and is very rustically glamorous. Our room was massive - with a huge open bedroom/living room that included a small kitchenette (mini-fridge stocked with cool drinks, electrical kettle to make coffee/tea, biscuits). The space continues into the bath/shower area - dual sinks - and an outdoor shower! My favorite. Amenities provided, including insect repellant. There is also a small soak pool on the deck with magical views of the Zambezi. We felt we were in paradise. Very peaceful and romantic. And yes, there were plenty of animals. A large family of elephants were bathing along the banks even before we got to the lodge! We could hear them at night. And an amusing giant kingfisher woke us each morning right about 5:30 AM when we wanted to get up anyway. Warthogs rooted in the lawn. Monkeys and banded mongoose crossed the path near sunset. Delightful. Our primary guide on the river, Casper, was an endless source of information and knew just were to find elephants crossing the river, or hippos pods near sunset, or the bee eaters nesting place in the mud banks. Excellent service from all staff. Robert was our primary server - and had an infectious smile. Food was excellent. First night's special: kudu loin. Similar to venison. AND, our first-rate travel agent - @Go2Africa - told them the trip was a birthday gift to me (it was), so they surprised us with a lovely birthday cake on the last evening! We shared around with other guests. I would return to this spot in a heartbeat. Thank you to all for the lasting memories.

Outstanding!

Ontario

We completed a 4 day safari in luxury lodging in Sabi Sands. When comparing, I would choose VFRL over the other. Less expensive, better food, better service, awesome accommodation in a beautiful "tent". Our server, Valentine, went over and above his service, indulging always with a smile. Both our river cruise captain was outstanding as well
