Yosemite National Park

Activities at Yosemite

There's more to Yosemite National Park than its beautiful walks and wildlife: there's a whole range of thrilling sports and activities on offer as well to make your visit even more exciting, made for those adrenaline-seekers.

Rock Climbing

Thanks to its steep rock faces and dramatic geography, Yosemite National Park is one of the world's premier rock climbing destinations. From the crack climbs of the Merced River Canyon to the sheer rock faces of El Capitan, Yosemite is a climber's playground. Choose from over 12 rock climbing routes leading up Half Dome's northwest face, or scale the Munginella climb for a great introduction to Yosemite granite. You can also head to the Toulmne Free Climbs which offer a mix of granite rock climbs and classic mountaineering. Numerous companies offer lessons in the area so whether you're an experienced climber or a novice, there's something to suit you.

Boating and Rafting

Popular during the summer months, you can hire a raft to glide along the Merced River to soak up the stunning views from a whole new perspective. Rafting is only permitted in certain areas of the park so be sure to check regulations before you hit the water. Kayaking is also a popular way to see Yosemite's beauty, particularly on the calm waters of Tenaya Lake.

Horseback Riding

Another great way to see Yosemite is with a horseback ride through the park. Scenic trails are available that range from either two hours long to a half day trip and offer a rugged excursion across Yosemite's terrain. Perfect for those after something completely different.
