Location nice and staff are pleasant but it ends there.

It’s currently 4:00 am and I am at the hotel unable to sleep so I figure I’ll write my review early. First time here, thought we’d try Collingwood, it’s our anniversary and I came up with the idea of coming here for us to go biking on the Georgian trail. Hotel staff are pleasant. We always look for a Westin when we travel. For me, that ends today. The hotel room is tired with a little scratched up kitchenette. We put the AC on as it’s too warm however it is incredibly loud. We had a maintenance guy come check it and he said it’s the compressor- it’s just very old and loud. As he checked it he knocked some wine glasses of the table and shattered them so 11:00 pm we’re waiting as he lugs a vacuum in here to clean up the glass. He leaves. We open the window for air but there is no screen so a ton of tiny bugs fly in. Can’t have the window open. Ask front desk for ear plugs- they bring us some but they do nothing to cut the AC noise. Thus it is now 4:00, I am exhausted but cannot sleep so I write this (while squishing bugs on my computer screen as they are attracted to the light- I’ve killed about 15 so far). Fun times. I don’t see biking once we get up as I’ll be too tired. May have to cancel our 2nd night. This is what I imagine a 2 star strip motel with window AC units would be like. Tried their gym last night after dinner but it was crowded with young kids. This hotel is also very dog friendly- there are cute dogs everywhere you turn- When we pulled up I thought perhaps there was a dog show going on here but they are just a very dog friendly property. Aside from one dog yelping in his room down the hall we haven’t heard others. We don’t have a dog but I do think it’s nice that dog owners can bring their pets with them when they travel here. For that, I gave them an extra star and make this a 2 star review. Lastly, we wanted to check this place out for skiing in the winter (never skied here as we generally go to Quebec), the room closet and layout is super tiny- I can’t imagine unpacking winter clothes- drawers are tiny and I don’t see where one would put boots, ski boots, helmets, ski coats and ski pants- closet is so tiny. I guess it’s because of the kitchen area taking up space. Rest of the room is decent- the bed and sofa area.

Beware - Dog Hotel

This place is packed with Dogs. If you dont love sleeping in a tired room where you know and can tell dogs have stayed before you... we advise staying away! Westin did not make us aware of this before booking long weekend. Very dissapointed.
