Enchanting hotel next to Perfume River

This unique art deco style hotel provides a fantastic place to stay in the old Vietnamese capital of Hue. Located on the bank of The Perfume River which is alive with activity throughout the day. With expansive and beautifully maintained frangipani scented gardens – this is the perfect place to relax in a tranquil setting after a busy day sightseeing in the city.

The former French governor's grand 1930s residence is just a 20-minute walk to the Imperial Citadel and a 10-minute drive to the imposing Tu Duc Tomb – both must-see sights when in Hue.

The rooms are beautifully light and airy and most have views across the river. Facilities include an enormous outdoor swimming pool, spa and many dining options. Unique gastronomic experiences can be arranged for guests who are keen to explore Vietnamese cuisine and delicacies, such as cooking classes, dinner cruises, and the very popular Governors Colonial Dinner.

Loved it.

London, United Kingdom

Probably our favourite hotel in Vietnam. Beautiful building and the room was really nice as well. Whatever construction was going on seems to have stopped as the hotel was quiet and peaceful. It's a little outside the centre of town but not too far that you can't walk to most places. The pool is really nice and big which was a plus as the weather was really hot. The staff are really nice and friendly and I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

Beautiful building, excellent friendly staff - overall a truly exceptional visit

Knutsford, United Kingdom

We spent 4 days at this hotel and from the start felt very much welcomed by the friendly, helpful staff. It is a credit to the hotel training that every member of staff we met had some command of English and we were greeted with a friendly 'Good morning' from everyone - gardeners, kitchen staff, maids etc as well as the very professional front of house staff. We had booked various tours through the hotel and I was so glad we did. Trips to two garden houses (one for tea and one for a private dinner) gave another perspective on local life and were highlights of our visit to Vietnam. The staff also organised an excellent tour of the Citadel and found us taxis for unplanned excursions we had decided on at the last minute. We had a lovely river view room with a balcony which, whilst it was in the as yet un-refurbished wing, did not lack any comforts and was pleasantly decorated. The bathroom was fine - no bath but a good walk-in shower. I was a little concerned about soundproofing as one night we could hear every word on a TV next door but this turned out to be a one-off. No doubt, refurbishment will take care of any issue there. The ambiance of this Art Deco hotel is charming throughout and the gardens/swimming pool area are also attractive. The area around the hotel is slowly being transformed and next door construction is being completed on a new wing of the University of Music which will include a concert hall so I believe. I would think this will improve the immediate surroundings. Nevertheless in the other direction there is a pleasant enough walk along the riverbank gardens (past the boats) next to the hotel at present. The Parfum restaurant is one area which slightly disappointed. The style of the restaurant following the Art Deco theme (huge with tiled floors, high ceilings) means it is quite noisy especially as it would appear there are frequently tour groups booked in. Large tables of noisy chattering groups do not help the acoustics of such a place. The food on the whole was very good although we had to wait nearly an hour one night for our main course (surprisingly as it was from a set menu) but the afore-mentioned tour groups may not helped the kitchen flow. It would be a shame to lose the style of the restaurant but perhaps couples and smaller family groups could be sited in a different area to the larger tours? Fortunately we were able to eat on the quieter terrace on another night. The Gouvernor's Bar is good for a light lunch or cocktails and a lovely place to relax. I cannot recommend this hotel too highly. A special thanks is due to the excellent staff who sadly are too many to mention (also my command of the local names is not good!). I would certainly visit again. It is a special place to stay.
