Expert Tips

Martyn

Destination Executive

“The amount of national parks and their enormous size can be daunting. Make sure you prioritise your list and give yourself some room to spend more than one day in a few of them if you decide you want to explore a bit more. Utah and Arizona are full of some wonderful natural sights.”

Christie

Destination Executive

“When you arrive in the Grand Canyon you’ll see hundreds of tourists gathered around the edge. Walk a little way along (10-20 minutes) and you’ll have the trail – and the view – almost all to yourself.”

Nick

Senior Destination Manager

“One of my best experiences in America’s national parks was visiting at sunrise and sunset. There tend to be less tourists, giving you largely uninterrupted views. Just remember to bring a torch and stick to the trails.”

Frequently Asked Questions

We recommend visiting in either spring or autumn, with early spring and late autumn ideal if you want to escape the crowds. Summers can get hot – up to 35°C – while winters tend to be bright, mild and sunny.

Utah and Arizona are home to some of the largest Indian reservations in the USA. Not all of these can be visited, as they are privately owned. Guests can visit the Navajo Nation, which spreads across 16 million acres in Arizona, Utah and New Mexico and has 250,000 residents. Take a guided tour or watch traditional dances and ceremonies. Visit in September for the Navajo Nation Fair, where you can watch parades, shop in markets and see some of the local art.

The Grand Canyon National Park is set across a million acres of land. The actual canyon itself is usually measured by the miles of Colorado River which run through it. The Grand Canyon is said to begin in Lees Ferry and stretch for 277 miles to the Grand Walsh Cliffs.

Home to some of America’s greatest National Parks, as well as some spectacular Indian reservations, Utah and Arizona offer their own special blend of natural surroundings. Combine your trip with visits to larger cities, like Salt Lake City and Phoenix, and experience America at its best.
