Incredible Family Holiday

Toronto, Canada

My family spent a week here, my mother ( a super fit and vibrant senior), my husband, 7 year old daughter and myself. We had such a wonderful time. My daughter absolutely loved the Kids Club (so much so that she refused to leave the few times I tried to get her to leave early). There were so many wonderful workshops and activities for us to choose from, or you could simply relax by the pool. This was an incredible, once in a lifetime adventure holiday for our family and we loved it.

Beautiful Views.

The hotel: Overall the scenery was absolutely beautiful. We had an amazing room with big windows to allow lots of light and had the best views. There were also lounge chairs on our porch which were nice for watching those gorgeous sunsets. The pool was so nice and clean. I loved the waterfall. We spent most of our afternoons in the pool because it was so hot outside. (and because there was nothing else to do). I like that parts of the original ranchhouse were still there. It was fun to hear about the ranch's history. The food: It was okay. I heard lots of great things about the food so I guess I was expecting it to be better. Breakfasts were the best. I loved the cowboy cookout. The meal there was amazing and the location for the cookout was so pretty. They had outdoor lights hanging around and live music. I loved it. Another favorite was the breakfast ride. We got to ride the horses to breakfast and the manager grilled us pancakes. The location for the breakfast was also amazing. The kids club: I went to this ranch because it was suppose to be family friendly. However if your kids are under 12 they can only go on horserides with the kids club. This wasn't a deal breaker for me because I figured the kids would have more fun with other kids. However, while most of the counsellors were amazing with kids, there was one who yelled at my kids all morning. They almost didn't want to go back. We had to be there with them after that to ensure they were not yelled at by this particular counsellor. Why put an employee in the kids camp who obviously hates kids? It was awful. But again if the kids don't go to kids camp, they can't ride the horses. So we had no choice but to bring them back. However, we were able to go on the ride with them. This kids club experience alone will keep me from ever going back to this ranch. My kids were on vacation and they had to endure getting yelled at by an employee who obviously hates her job. Also, if you look at the kid's schedule it looks like they have lots of things planned for the kids to do, however those are up to the counsellor if they want to do them or not. As we had a counsellor who hated her job she never felt like doing anything but sitting the kids in front of a movie screen all day. The horses: If you have not ridden a horse before, you can almost be guaranteed to fail the lope check. If you fail the lope check then you will only be walking your horse in a slow line which, I'm sorry, but after one horse walk it gets very boring. We took 2 classes and failed the lope check twice. Who cares that you can repeatedly lope your horse in a class, if you can't get your horse to lope right away in one lap, you fail. This was a running joke between me and my husband because I could point out plenty of wranglers having trouble getting their horses to lope. Which makes sense because sometimes you just have a stubborn horse. We were not horse experts but I am sure we would have not had any trouble taking a horse out on a lope ride. For the price I paid I should have been able to go on a lope ride or at least get a refund as I was not able to enjoy all the activities that were offered. The lope check was very stressful, and that is the last thing I need on a vacation. This is another reason why I would never return to this ranch. The Activities: I realize that we came in the off season and the weather was very hot, but all activities end at like 2 and then there is absolutely nothing for you to do until dinner at 6. We swam during that time but it was a little disappointing for us. I wish there would have been some options for maybe indoor activities in the afternoon. Overall, I am a little disappointed in this vacation destination. It was definitely not worth the price! I would say if you are a couple and wanted a nice quiet place to relax and enjoy the views then this would be a good place for you. However, if you are a family with young kids under 12, I would not go here.
