Best time to visit Utah & Arizona
Favourite Season
Utah & Arizona are states all about exploring the great outdoors and the activities on offer will determine exactly when to travel. Our favourite time to visit Utah & Arizona is in the spring or autumn. Temperatures are warm, but not extreme, and the popular resorts are not as crowded as in the winter or summer months.
Spring
Being a semiarid state, Utah has dry, high country air and plenty of sunshine in general although dramatic clouds and a quick rainstorm or snow flurry could be round the corner in spring - however this time of the year is probably the most popular as you can ski and golf in the same day. Spring sees comfortable temperatures and spectacular displays of wildflowers. Starting in March and lasting through May, spring in Arizona sees the iconic saguaro cacti covered with powdery white blooms blown by gentle breezes.
Summer
Arizona regularly reaches temperatures of over 45°C at the lower elevations, so make sure you have an extra bottle of water and plenty of sunscreen. Utah is slightly cooler at highs of 37°C. You will also have to contend with monsoon season (July through September) bringing brief but strong thunderstorms, powerful winds, and dust storms.
Autumn
Utah & Arizona is ablaze with colour in the autumn and also brings a drop in the raging summer temperatures so you can enjoy crimson leaves, crisp days, and pleasant walks outdoors.
Winter
Arizona sees its high season with 300+ of blue skies and warm temperatures, which make a welcome break from gloomy northern winters elsewhere in the US. Prices may be at their highest, but you will enjoy weekends packed with outdoor festivals to compliment the balmy weather. Utah is colder, but surprisingly pleasant and the occasional dusting of snow through The Mighty 5® national parks makes for a quieter visit but the majority of the snow is reserved for the mountains and no matter if you are an avid ski or snowboarder or just love to spend your days snow tubing or enjoying the mountain, Utah in winter will keep all the family entertained.
