Double Billed on my Wedding Night

After contacting Hotels.com we have finally been refunded, though the hotel kept a $50 hold on my husband's account for an additional week. The hotel has not reached out to apologize for or eradicate their clerical error even after several attempts to contact them. Emails and phone calls have Ben an answered or returned and I'm extremely disappointed with their lack of response. In hindsight, I'd advise you to avoid this hotel at all costs. The hotel is under construction but we never heard a peep from our room. Some amenities weren't available but we knew that going in. The computers were down when my then fiance, now husband, went to put our things in the room before heading to the church for our wedding. The staff was very pleasant and accommodating despite the technical issues. There was no evidence of stress on their faces or in their demeanor. However, the computers being down proved to be a pretty big deal. At checkout, it was acknowledged that there was some type of double billing and the wrong card type was mentioned (we weren't sure if they even had the right room. We didn't get a receipt for anything but the valet so there was no way to know). The employee talked us/herself through it as we checked out and determined it was fine. We got home and checked the balance of our card and realized we had been double billed. Unfortunately, we have a lot to do as newlyweds and having two $300 ($600 total) holds on our card meant we had to make some changes to our post wedding plans. To make matters worse, the only person who could clear it up wasn't in the office, given it was a Sunday, and because it's a holiday weekend, we probably will have to scrap the rest of our plans for the entire weekend because this probably won't be resolved until much later this week. The stay was lovely but this clerical error or computer glitch really put an unexpected burden on our joyous wedding weekend. I loved everything else about the stay but with all of the nice hotels in the downtown area, I wish we had gone to one that wouldn't have cost us a nice downtown brunch, paying our pet sitter in full when we got home, and a day trip to a nearby river. Kinduv a drag.

Take Caution Before Booking!

Charleston, United States

On my check-in on 9-04-18 I was told that the hotel would upgrade me to a suite at no extra charge due to the ongoing construction. This was a nice touch and I thanked them. However, they also asked if I would be changing the length of my stay-if I would be checking out earlier than planned there would be an additional charge. Nice way to start a stay. Front desk often handled by only 1 person leaving the phone unanswered. Third night my room was not cleaned even though I had been out from 7:15 AM until 4:00 PM. It took 4 phone calls to get the room cleaned which was finally completed 3 hours after my initial contact. Before the room attendant left she had maintenance come and take out a bench that had a broken leg! At check out, the next morning, there were major errors in the bill (different room rate charge each night with the third night being charged at the usual suite price of $319, but no one around who was authorized to address the issue. I was directed to contact the head of the front desk (left two voicemails that day and sent an email). Saturday, 9-08-18 called back and spent 51 minutes on the phone at which time the front desk could not figure out the errors in the bill. I was told the head of the front desk would be in on Sunday, 9-09-18. After not hearing from her I called and left another message and sent another, more detailed email. Still waiting to hear back. Issues unresolved. The lack of professionalism, responsiveness and the absence of quality amenities from a hotel that professes to be 4 Stars prevents me from giving more than two stars which is actually quite generous given the hotel: does not have a cafe or restaurant, is still under construction AND has simply recycled OLD furniture then called this a complete remodeling.
