We Had A Blast!

My wife and I booked at this historic hotel after nearly 3 weeks of travel for a little R&R before heading home to Canada, and we were not disappointed. Here's our experience. We had booked a cottage room, but when we arrived and saw how awesome the mansion was we asked if there was a room inside and to our luck there was. NUMBER 14! What a gem. Huge room with period furniture and a double balcony. We were warned that the beds were smaller (antebellum style) but my wife and I are natural spooners so we were cozy. Supper was top notch. We generally don't look at menus and just ask the chef to have fun and they didn't disappoint. The item wasnt on the menu and I honestly have no idea what it was - but I would eat it every day for the rest of my life. The evening was just a great. We basically had a 53,000 square foot mansion to ourselves. We drank loads of bourbon and ended up waltzing in the ballroom for hours haha. But neither of us can actually waltz so my wife ended up with bruised toes in the morning. Woke up the next morning and noticed there was only decaf in the room. Called down and within 5 minutes we had regular coffee pods. After she left our room I could hear her rush in the house and all the sudden there was a knock on our 2nd door (room is so big it needs 2 doors). When we opened it all we heard was VOILA!!! and she delivered us 3 freshly poured coffees. Its like she knew I needed 2 coffees and my wife only 1. Thanks for that added touch. We spent the day roaming the grounds and discovered our favorite spot. The pond with turtles. I bet we spent more money feeding those turtles then we did for our entire resort stay haha. We had heard that there was a murder mystery that evening. We inquired and it had been sold out for a month. We kept checking to see if there was a cancellation and lucky for us an hour before show time they had 2 cancellations. We fancied up and headed over. What a time we had! Professional actors, great story lines, perfect food and a chance to meet some great locals. To top the night off we ended up winning the murder mystery and won 2 nottoway wine glasses. They say they place is haunted - if that's the case the ghosts are doing a piss poor job cause all we got was 2 awesome nights sleep and full belly's. Thanks to everyone that works here. You guys care and it shows.

Relaxing venue

Burlington, Wisconsin

We stayed here one week. I would definitely go back. Within an hour and a half you can visit New Orleans, other plantation houses, bayous, and Cajun country but you are away from the hubbub. The food was excellent and better than New Orleans. We stayed in the overseer's house but rooms are available in the big house or in outside cabins. The room was spacious, the bed was a little too soft for my taste, and the bathroom had everything I needed. The staff was friendly and the service was excellent.
