Very nice hostess, beautiful grand dame needs a good cleaning

des moines

Madewood is a gorgeous plantation home in a quiet part of the state. It’s easy to see the past grandeur and Kudos to the owners for restoring this piece of history. Our hostess, Angie was gracious and accommodating. The house has many bedrooms that are set up well for families and friends traveling together with multiple beds in some rooms. Several of the bathrooms are very large and some quite small. Ask if this matters to you. Angie allows a run of the house to explore which is nice to view all of the art and antique furniture. Dinner was beautiful and very well prepared. We were grateful for the gluten free accommodation. The house is undergoing renovation work and Angie was very clear about what to expect - it wasn’t a problem at all. With so many wonderful things to claim I was surprised by how dirty our room was. It needs a good cleaning. The room we booked didn’t have the air on and Angie offered us another which we were glad to take. Perhaps the original had been better prepared. There is visible dust in many places - see the photo of the bathroom floor. The drapes need to be vacuumed as all of the linens smell dusty. See the photo of the mud nest I found on a drape when I went to close it for the night. There wasn’t any soap in the bath, however, the shampoo made do. While the room was cool, the bath was not air conditioned and was very hot. We had an unexpected guest in our room. See photo.

50th Anniversary Getaway

St. Martinville, LA, United States

My husband and I decided to tour various spots along the Gulf Coast for our 50th anniversary. We made a unscheduled stop at the Madewood Plantation Home Bed and Breakfast in Napoleonville , La. We were very pleased with the site. The staff was very accommodating despite the fact that we called at the last minute. The home is undergoing extensive renovations, however, you can still enjoy the charm and tranquility that goes with an authentic antebellum setting. We were able to tour the home and surrounding grounds at our leisure. Great care has been taken to make your stay as comfortable as possible while still maintaining the historical integrity of the home and surroundings. We were unable to have the customary dinner which goes the stay due to the fact that we were the only guests. However, before we departed the next morning, there was a very fine breakfast prepared for us in the dining room. It was the finishing touch to a great getaway.
