Overrated and overpriced

We booked this hotel as part of a “Roadtrip” around the USA, and had stayed in a few hotels on the trip before this. We made good time and arrived at the Wyndham around 6pm. As soon as we arrived we were ushered out of the car and the Valet very helpfully suggested he would park the car for me, until I noticed the eye watering $38 (before tax!) per evening! I had asked if I could self park, as we had done previously on the trip, to be told there is no option. After going around in circles I decided that maybe the person checking me in would be able to help more suitably. The checkin “agent” couldn’t of looked more uninterested in my question and instead suggested we could pay a further $26 to upgrade our room, after stepping outside of my car and being $82 out of pocket (including tax) for a car park I’m unable to park my car in, I felt aggrieved to be asked for more money and decided that the room we had been assigned would be fine, BIG MISTAKE! The room..... well, I wish I took photos, the walls all the same colour, indicative of a prison cell, outdated beds, bedside cabinets and decor unbecoming of a “luxury hotel”. To top it off, maids in the mornings ping pong there way down the hallway with their Trollies smashing each door as they pass whilst shouting at each other, helpful if you wanted a lie in. To top off all of this I went to collect the car on the morning of checkout and left my partner, who is more diplomatic, to checkout. Yet again the “agent” couldn’t be more uninterested, didn’t ask how our stay was, was on the phone the whole time and simply printed our invoice and proceeded continue typing something on the computer after the invoice was handed over. All in all, I love New Orleans, the French Quarter is outstanding and we will return, the Hotel Next door the Monteleone seems great, however I will never grace this hotel with my custom again, and it will certainly never be recommended to any of my friends.

Friendly staff, good location, needs better room maintenance

Cincinnati, Ohio

Stayed here because of the location in the French Quarter which is nice (Canal & Royal). Staff is helpful and friendly, rooms nice sized compared to other big cities. Our only complaint was with the maintenance condition of the rooms. Our room had an air conditioner that leaked into the room (from condensation) and soaked the carpet in an 8 foot by 8 foot area which made it hard walking around the room without getting wet feet. Also the sink stopper was broken which is nice for men shaving. On our last night the water went out for the whole hotel so no flushing toilets, no showers, brushing teeth, etc. They said 15 minutes to fix, but in 2 hours hadn't been fixed which was unnerving, considering we wanted to get showers prior to boarding our flight home. Fortunately the water was working in the morning when we got up.
