Wonderful people but the details need attention

I cannot say enough about the hotel staff. Everyone was outstandingly friendly - the valet, the bellmen, the front desk, the conference staff. The location is also terrific - in the CBD and an easy walk to the riverfront and the quarter. Rooms are a nice size for New Orleans and surprisingly quiet given the location. There was very little hall noise. Virtually no noise from the street. Bathrooms were large and had delightful lemon verbena bath products, which were refilled daily. Room is quite dark - dark interior, dark carpet, dark lamp shades. The lobby is lovely with several places to eat/drink. Easy walk to a variety of really good restaurants. Now the details. The fitness room is incredibly small for the size hotel. I tried to use the facility two different mornings - once at 6 and once at 6:30. Both times the five working treadmills were in use as were the 2 bikes and 1 elliptical. Both mornings someone had a mat down taking up the little available floor space. Both mornings I gave up and did yoga in my room. Even if cardio equipment had been free, I likely would not have stayed long -- too many people in too small of a space. This is a real deal breaker for me - a conference hotel with a fitness center akin to a budget motel is not okay. There is nothing in the room telling what the hotel amenities are. Finally found the info. on the pool/fitness center on trip advisor. The reservation was for two people and there was only one bathrobe and three towels. Are guests supposed to share the bathrobe? There is a mini bar in the room but no refrigerator for personal use. Nowhere to store medicine, leftovers, chill water, keep cream for morning coffee, etc. Speaking of cream, there is none in the room. The hotel has a single serve Keurig with Community Coffee pods - so you can actually brew a decent cup of coffee in the room if you have bottled water. But instead of a caddy with a selection of sugar/sweetners and half-&-half, there were only sealed packs containing 1 sugar, 1 sweet-n-law, and 1 package of powdered creamer. I had to open all three packages to get 3 sugars - wastiing everything else in the packages. My husband only uses splenda and that was not an option. Very very wasteful. And because of the mini bar versus refrigerator, I couldn't go to the convenience store and buy cream because there was nowhere to put it. The conference facilities were on the second and third floors. The rooms were oddly shaped, making ingress and egress a challenge in some and presenting a nightmare. One room on the second floor shared a room with the prep kitchen and during several presentations in that room we could clearly hear the people talking and clanging in the kitchen but could not hear the presenter. Parking is ridiculously expensive and there are few nearby options for self park. Be prepared for the tax on top of the parking, making parking more expensive than anticipated. While the people were great and the rooms quiet, I am not likely to choose the intercontinental again. There are too many hotels in New Orleans in the same price range that really pay attention to the details.

Wonderful Hotel - Great People

Lafayette, Louisiana

I cannot say enough good things about my experience this weekend at your hotel. Before I arrived I received an email confirming my reservation and check in time. [I am very busy - so that was extremely helpful — much like your own personal assistant.] When I arrived at the hotel I explained to the Valet [ female — I arrived about 4:00 PM on Friday afternoon] that I had an early morning meeting the following day at Tulane — so my car was parked within 10 feet of the front door. [How does it get any better than that!] I ordered room service — twice — Friday night and Saturday morning — on each occasion, my order was delivered before the promised 30 minute wait time. [I was the guest in Room 672] Everyone from the Valet — to the folks at the front desk — to the people working in guest service were friendly and super professional. These hotel employees know what it means to be in the “hospitality business.” Please extend my thanks to all of your wonderfully dedicated employees for making me feel like I was the only guest in the hotel.
