Good location, tired rooms, only ok staff and lobby

Leesburg, Virginia

Stayed here for business and fun recently and it was only ok. Best asset is the location: perfectly situated in the French Quarter with plenty of great restaurants and sites within easy walking distance. The lobby is decent but not special with nothing that really stands out. The hotel front desk staff were professional but not up to the usual warmth and welcome of a Marriott/SPG property. The room was somewhat tired though clean and functional. Street noise is always a concern in the French Quarter so I asked for and received a room not facing Bourbon Street and that helped a great deal. All in all, there are better options for similar prices in the French Quarter.

In the thick of it

Mount Pleasant, South Carolina

This hotel, on Bourbon Street, is not so large and has an amazing number of amenities for being the size it is since it serves as a conference hotel too. The lobby is quite small; there's coffee going all the time; there's a little courtyard, but it was too cold to sit there. The lobby bar does not have enough staffing! You might have to wait over an hour just to get anybody to ask you about a drink, even if you go up to the bar for services because there's usually only one person serving the bar proper and the seats in it. But, as the bar faces Bourbon Street, it's a pretty prime location for people/street watching. While everybody thinks they want a room on Bourbon Street, the noise is so loud that even with all the hotel has done to dampen sound, I highly suggest you take a room in the back side. You won't be sorry. You're likely to still hear the noise at 3 a.m. in the morning. Our room was on the 5th floor with two dormer windows, looking over the back parking lot. The hotel itself is the old opera house building, hence not too large. I didn't eat any meals there so I cannot vouch for their food as I said only for their bar.
