Another Nice Marriott

Auburn, Alabama

The girl that checked us in was really nice and helpful. Another girl I asked about breakfast was a bit rude, but oh well. The room was nice and clean, which is always appreciated. We had a view of the river, which was really nice but did cost extra of course. We were in Mobile for a cheer competition, and all we had to do was take the skywalk over to the convention center so it couldn't have been more convenient. I would stay there again.

First rate hotel at a great price

Carefree, Arizona

We spent 2 nights on the 27th floor of the 28 story property in room 2720. The hotel is well located about 18 miles from the airport. There is no shuttle service provided so unless you rent a car a taxi will cost around $50 each way. The quickest way is through 22 traffic lights. Once you arrive the staff are quick to get you checked in. There are 4 elevators and 373 rooms in this giant structure which is the tallest building in town. Our room was in the corner of the building with a fantastic view of the causeway leading to Florida and the river itself where you can see littoral combat ships being repaired below, the cruise terminal and trains passing through every once in a while. Noise from the outside is fairly well insulated but I cannot say the same thing about noise in the hall. If anyone is talking you can hear it. The doors to the rooms close loudly and there is no way to muffle door closures as well as voices of small children. The room we had featured a large comfy king bed, twin lamps, desk, chair, divan and large windows in two directions. There is a safe, fridge, big closet and 2 great robes. The bathroom has a standard tub/shower configuration and the whole thing is new. There is a big flat screen TV with TV guide making it easy to find out what programs might be showing. Internet was free and worked perfectly the entire time. The hotel is well located in the center of town and within walking distance of key attractions, restaurants, shops. Considering the type of hotel, the room prices were about $100 less than a comparable hotel in San Diego, for example. There were two issues we faced. First, a massive dance competition involved nearly 200 rooms being booked by contestants and chaperones. This mob of people clogged the elevators at critical times on both the ground and 2nd floors making it virtually impossible to get on any elevator for protracted periods of time. The staff were unable to cope with this mob scene! The second issue was the concierge lounge on the 28th floor. The lounge was supposed to feature breakfast and hors d'ouvers. On Sunday at 530 the lounge was full of people waiting and no staff showed up and no food was present. The one person who staffs the lounge apparently called in sick at the last minute and nobody bothered to put a sign on the door notifying all of the lounge customers. Very unprofessional! Because we were there on a Saturday-Monday time period we had to cope with these problems and that is the only reason I gave this property a 4 star rating instead of 5 stars. These were likely two unique situations and if you factor them out, the hotel was great and I would stay here again.
