The Hawaiian Extravaganza Self Drive is a chance to explore the magical scenery and laid back lifestyle of Oahu, Kauai and Maui. Here you can hike in upland rainforests, cycle extinct volcanoes and relax on some of the finest white sand beaches in the world.

This nine day self drive is perfect for those looking for an active holiday involving plenty of cycling, hiking and water sports. You’ll begin your journey in Honolulu, on the island of Oahu. This vibrant city boasts superb shopping and world class restaurants, as well as serving as the gateway to the island’s spectacular natural wonders.

Among the highlights you could choose to visit is the gorgeous Diamond Head Crater, a volcanic peak offering spectacular views of downtown. You can enjoy a leisurely cycle around the city, getting to grips with its enviable café culture and best food spots. Beautiful Kauai is known as the “garden island”. This unspoiled paradise offers superb walking amidst vast canyons and wild beaches, where the wild breakers of the Pacific roll in. In Maui you could enjoy a challenging cycle tour around an extinct volcano and hike in a lush tropical valley. You’re sure to feel a million miles away from everyday life.

Arriving at Honolulu International Airport, you’ll be greeted with the traditional lei. Once you’ve collected your car and checked in to your hotel it’s time to get out and explore the city, or simply spend the day relaxing by the pool.

Today you have the option of taking a hike around Diamond Head Crater, a stunning volcanic peak just a short drive from downtown Honolulu. While it may look like an intimidating climb, a well maintained series of trails mean you can be at the top gazing over the skyscrapers of the city and jewel like sea in under an hour. After lunch you’ll undertake a walk to Manawaiopuna Falls (also known as Jurassic Park Falls). This stunning spot was a key location in Stephen Spielberg’s classic movie and is included in your package. In the evening you can explore the vibrant bars and restaurants of Honolulu.

One of the best ways to see Honolulu’s hidden landmarks is by bike. Hire a bike and you are free to explore the  boutique stores and charming palm lined streets. The Old Town offers an intriguing insight into the island’s history, with statues of the kings and queens of this ancient kingdom displayed alongside colonial era architecture. The neighbourhood of Waikiki is a must see, and offers high end shopping and fine dining, as well as its iconic beach. The Waikiki Beach Walk is a wonderful place to watch the sunset over the sea.

This morning we’ll fly from Oahu to Kauai, known as the “Garden Island” for the thick tropical rainforest that covers much of its surface. This is a place of craggy cliffs and sparkling seas. It has much less tourism than the other islands in the archipelago, so it’s easy to find a private spot where you can feel you have the whole place to yourself. Spend a day cycling the Lydgate Beach Path, exploring the Wailua River by kayak or relaxing in the wild landscape of Nukolii Beach Park.

The best way to see Kauai is on foot. Take a stroll through the breath taking Halemanu Canyon, finishing at the jaw dropping Waipoo Falls – an 800 foot waterfall offering extraordinary views across the island. Have lunch in the lovely beachside town of Kapaa, which is home to some intriguing local art galleries and stores offering local handicrafts. For dinner you can experience the fresh local flavours of the island, including healthy ahi poke – a dish of raw tuna in sesame sauce often served over rice with salad.

This morning you’ll fly from Kauai to Maui, perhaps the most famous island in the Hawiian archipelago and home to a variety of parks and natural wonders. Settle into island life with a day on one of the many beautiful beaches.

Rising fully rested, today could be the day that you explore the nature setting of Maui. Take a visit to the summit of the dormant Haleakala Volcano and the surrounding pineapple fields and past blooming jacaranda trees. Spend the rest of the day relaxing on the beach or indulging in some retail therapy at the Whalers Village Shopping Centre.

On your last day, why not embark on a hike through one of Maui’s famous valleys, which runs parallel to the legendary Hana Highway. This serene tableau of tropical flowers, lush greenery and gently babbling streams is a world away from the hustle and bustle of daily life.
