Art-Deco elegance, inner city location

The Kimpton Palomar Philadelphia is a luxury period hotel situated in the city centre of Philadelphia. Like any Kimpton hotel, this one tells a story and that story is ‘Art in Motion’ – something that is immediately apparent upon arrival. The hotel is set in one of the most striking Art Deco buildings in the city and features a beautiful interior that blends period design with contemporary styling. After its $92 million renovation project in recent years, the hotel has gained ‘green’ status for its contribution to environmental design. There are plenty of refined facilities too including the Square 1682 Restaurant, a modern fitness centre and a hosted evening wine hour in the hotel’s charming living room.

  • Impressive period building dating from 1929
  • Work out at the 24-hour fitness centre
  • Walk to top attractions including Rittenhouse Square
  • Enjoy contemporary American cuisine at the Square 1682 Restaurant

Plans to impress, but falls short

Collingswood, New Jersey

Over 22 stays at Kimpton properties, this was one of the more pleasant. It did however disappoint in denying me the room I reserved, then after complaining, was told I was no longer welcome in their hotel. I suppose that is why they frequently change management, and defer to corporate on every discrepancy. Thanks for ruining my fiancees birthday.

Great Location

Cape Cod, Massachusetts

The Kimpton Palomar is located in a lively, bustling part of Philly, about 3 blocks from the greenery of Rittenhouse Square. Lots of quality shopping on streets around the hotel and plenty of restaurants whether you are looking for a good Philly cheesesteak or an upscale Italian meal at Davio's. It also felt safe during the day and at night. If you don't want to venture out for a meal, the adjacent restaurant, Square 1682, served very good food in a casual bistro setting. The hotel itself is rather small, even by Kimpton standards. There's probably only about 10 rooms per floor (I didn't count), but there are 20 plus floors. The meeting room on the top floor is bright and cheery for events. My room on the 15th floor was rather small, but looked modern, clean, and very functional with large windows, plenty of plugs for electronics, good lighting. I liked the large mirror by the entrance. Bed was very comfortable with quality pillows too. The bathroom was small as well, but had plenty of room by the sink, large mirror, good lighting. Towels were soft. Customer service was generally very good, although at times long lines formed for registration and other needs. There is not a business center, but the front desk was kind enough to print out a few pages for me. I like the Kimpton chain. Even though they are now part of a large corporate lodging entity (IHG), they've kept that boutique hotel feel, still have the early evening free wine get-togethers, and remain "dog friendly". Love seeing dogs in the lobby. (Note: bring my own dogs next time!)
