Wonderful views, clean rooms, great staff, tasty treats.

McMinnville, Oregon

We just returned from a spontaneous 2 night trip to Newport for kayaking on the coast. This hotel was a delightful surprise. We had a 4th floor room and the view was amazing. From the balcony we could see from the Yaquina light to the buoy light on the jetty on a near-full moon night. Private, extremely clean, gas fireplace in the room. Very nice breakfast, smoked salmon chowder at 5 pm (we didn't get back in time to sample this), and fresh cookies at 8 pm. Covered parking as well as a bit on the street (for our tall load of kayaks). Nice swimming pool and jacuzzi, plus small exercise room. Protected outdoor seating with a gas fire so you can sit and watch the waves outside without freezing in Oregon's unpredictable weather. Shortcomings (only reason for the 4-star rating): no A/C (usually not needed on the Oregon coast, but it was in the 70s during the day when we were there; it did have a ceiling fan, but we left the balcony door open all night to keep cool enough); very slow and busy elevator (we used the stairs except for hauling luggage). And the price was exceptionally low. We'll definitely be back.

Beautiful Views

Oak Forest, Illinois

This hotel is right on the beach. The staff is amazing. The accommodations were first class. Even a pod of whales to see right from the balcony. Easy drive from Portland airport area. Drive the coast along highway 101.
