The W New York - Times Square is WOW!!

As a Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Guest, I organized a joint 50th birthday celebration for myself and my best friend and his twin teenaged daughters to attend the U.S. Open (tennis). We decided to stay five (5) nights at the W New York - Times Square using my Bonvoy points in late August 2019 / early September 2019. Immediately after making our five (5) night stay using Marriott Bonvoy points approximately three (3) weeks prior to our arrival date, I emailed the Complex General Manager, Christine as well as the Director of Front Operations, Alice and advised them of our future stay as well as our special requests. In a relatively short time, I received a thoughtful reply from Alexandra on behalf of Christine and Alice, with regard to our special requests. The prompt response did not come as a surprise to us given how active the management is in reading and promptly replying to guests on Trip Advisor as well as the Marriott Bonvoy website, which is but a mere sign of the commitment of the staff of this property to exemplary customer service. Alexandra ultimately granted all of our special requests, for which I was very excited, and I really looked forward to our future stay the W New York - Times Square. This large hotel [466 rooms / 43 suites] is centrally located in Midtown Manhattan, just steps away from the heart of Times Square as well as Central Park as well as many bars, restaurant, trendy cafés, market and other cultural attractions. Furthermore, this hotel has excellent connections to public transportation options such as the subway, city buses, taxis, Uber/Lyft and a moderate walk to Grand Central Station or Penn Station. Our stay did not disappoint, especially when we arrived to find out that Christine, Alice, Alexandra and their team were kind enough to provide a complimentary upgrade us to one of their Corner Marvelous Suites on the 55th floor with an absolutely fantastic view of Manhattan, they provided us a $50.00 room credit to enjoy some drinks at the bar as well as provide a beautiful Oreo chocolate birthday cake, several bottles of Voss Artesian Sparking Water, numerous healthy snacks and a nice handwritten birthday card for our joint 50th birthday celebration. What an incredible and delightful surprise! The check-in process with Alice and her colleagues at the reception desk was a breeze and we simply loved our Marvelous Suite on the 55th floor, which was over 600 square feet in total space. The Corner Marvelous Suite consisted of two (2) main rooms: #1 The common area with a large pull-out sofa, a well-equipped desk with an office chair immediately in front of the window (likely impossible to work there with such an incredible view below!), a large wall-mounted flat screen TV and a half bathroom and #2 The separate bedroom had an incredibly comfortable King-size bed positioned in between two nightstands, a chaise lounge in front of a window with a small table, another well-equipped desk with an office chair immediately in front of the window (again, likely impossible to work there with such an incredible view below!), another slightly smaller wall-mounted flat screen TV, a coffee maker, a closet with a wall-mounted safe and a large modern bathroom with a large shower and a single sink. The corner Marvelous Suite had a total of three (3) large windows affording excellent views of the Manhattan cityscape 55 floors below.. Each bed, including the pull-out sofa, was extremely comfortable and we all enjoyed the extra space in the corner Marvelous Suite. The housekeeping staff provided extra towels, bath products and several bottles of complimentary water each day. Further, the cleanliness of the corner Marvelous Suite was exemplary and for this we want to recognize the entire housekeeping staff. The complimentary WiFi provided to us as Marriott Bonvoy Platinum guests was excellent. The 2,000 square foot Fitness Center on the 10th floor was open 24/7 and was very well-equipped (including Peloton bikes, numerous cardio machines and free weights) and incredibly clean. With our corner Marvelous Suite as well as Marriott Platinum Status, we enjoyed the complimentary continental breakfast each morning in the Blue Fin Restaurant. It was a great way to start the day! We also enjoyed drinks in the Living Room several times throughout the duration of our stay. Every team member with whom we came in contact, including Christine, Alice and Alexandra and other helpful staff members at the reception desk, the bar-keepers, the bell staff and the house-keeping staff really went out of their way to make us all feel welcomed, especially my best friend's twin teenage daughters. The extraordinary customer service that we received before and during our stay as well as the incredible accommodations in our corner Marvelous Suite and the well-equipped Fitness Center made this hotel a ten out of ten in our book! Congratulations to the Christine, Alice and the rest of the management team at W New York - Times Square for assembling such a great team and leading them with a overriding goal of excellent customer service and top-notch accommodations. You will be well served by selecting this hip, centrally located hotel for your base of operations in New York City. Rest assured, you will not be disappointed!

Not your typical W hotel

The hotel is old and needs to be remodeled. We had a one bedroom suite and in the living room area there was 2 plugs and not a one USB outlet to charge your phone. In the bedroom same situation except they put this ugly extension cord with 5 outlets near the bed so you could charge your phone. I didn't like that the desk was in front of one window so you had to climb over it to see down onto Time Square. And a Chase chair was in front of the window in the bedroom. The shower was amazing. The water pressure and the glass doors made for a great steam shower. The staff was ok. Nothing great. We are Titanium Members and we were celebrating our 9 year anniversary during our stay. I informed the guy who checked me in and he said he would send up something for our anniversary. This was on a Wednesday afternoon. Come Sunday afternoon before we check out on Monday we still hadn't gotten this gift for our anniversary he said he would send up. I went downstairs to the front desk and told them that if they were still sending something up it needed to happen that night because we check out the next morning. The girl said she would make sure it was sent up. We went out to dinner and exploring the city. When we returned around 10:00 nothing had been delivered. I went down again and explained again and they said something would be sent right up. A few minutes later in my room I hear someone at the door. He had a small dessert plate with 2 chocolate covered strawberries on it. The napkin was stained from the strawberries and handed it to me. No card nothing. Now I wouldn't have made a big deal about the whole situation but when the guy said he would have send something up I tipped him very well for 2 chocolate covered strawberries. (Pictured in the review). This happened around 10:30-11:00 so I waited until I went for breakfast another bad issue, and said something and showed the pictures. She apologized and said she would tell her manager. She must not have done much because when we checked out she had a small bag with a few items that seamed to be just thrown together. But at least she had a card attached so we have that to remember our anniversary trip to New York City. I would not recommend this property for any Titanium or platinum Bonvoy members. The breakfast is a cold breakfast. 1 box of cereal, milk, orange juice, croissant and a yogurt. You get a better breakfast from The Residence Inn or Best Western. It was embarrassing. The maid service was outstanding. Never had an issue and we even shares our pictures that each of us had taken in New York. That was a great touch of hospitality.
