Perfect way to bring in the new decade

I planned this trip as a dual celebration - my wife's birthday which is also on New Year's Eve I had reached out to the Concierge and the GM in advance as I have found it often helps ensure a warm welcome and sometimes also helps prevent some of the service problems that we read about form time to time at almost any property. I was contacted by both phone and email several days prior to our arrival by the hotel manager (general manager was out on annual holiday leave) and concierge who helped arrange for flowers in our room for my wife's birthday welcome. I have been fortunate to stay at quite a few very highly rated hotels worldwide, and I am very happy to report that our time at St Regis was perfect in every way. It is a grand old hotel and has been very well maintained. Agree it does not have many wide open spaces as another reviewer mentioned, but it is reflective of the era in which it was first built and provides and elegant and intimate effect. We were warmly greeted on arrival around 1.30PM. I had planned on just dropping our bags and returning later in the afternoon, but I was very happy to learn our room was already available for check in right then. Front desk check in staff was friendly and efficient. I was greeted at the front desk a few moments into the checkin process by Laurie, who gave us a brief overview of the hotel and facilities, including the restaurant and King Cole bar. Laurie then escorted us up to our room, which I expect at fine hotels but which does not happen as often these days. Hotel was beautifully decorated for the holidays! We were hoping for a suite upgrade per my Bonvoy Titanium status but given that we a.) booked this fairly late in December, and b.) we were staying over New Year's eve- one of the highest demand periods of the year for most any hotel in NYC, I was not surprised we did not get a suite. We were however upgraded to a Grand Luxe King room and it was absolutely beautiful, and one of the largest non-suite rooms we have ever stayed in for any NYC property (photo posted here in the review). To top off the perfect welcome to the property, the staff surprised us with a very nice plate of chocolate strawberries and a extremely generous gift of Perrier Jouet champagne, as well as two hand-written welcome/happy-birthday cards. Butler service by Tamara (16th floor) was impeccable and we were very glad to have been able to spend a few minutes speaker with her several times over the stay. She is warm, and wonderful and a real asset to the St Regis. We found room service food to be excellent, especially for a late-night meal. Bed was incredibly fantastic, and bathroom was very well equipped with TV-in-Mirror, large tub, separate shower, double sinks, separate toilet area, and marble top to bottom. Doorstaff, and all other staff we encountered were all very friendly and accommodating. The King Cole bar is much smaller than I expected but I very much liked the intimacy. We were quite lucky to get a seat after only 5 minutes wait, but every day we did see people waiting much longer, so you should hope for the best but expect a wait. Auston was very friendly behind the bar and look forward to our next visit to see him there at King Cole. I would also like to send a special thanks to Melanie in Rooms, Octavia, hotel manager, and Mr. Geray, GM, for following up with me to make sure everything was going well for us at various point in our stay. I am a long time loyal Marriott patron, with some family ties back to the Marriott's through my grandfather and father, and it is high quality, friendly, and genuine service as we were shown at The St. Regis that will will continue to keep me loyal to the brand. I very much look forward to our next visit to the St Regis and would highly recommend it as a destination hotel for any special event you may have planned in NYC.

Wedding anniversary in November 2019

For many years we celebrated our wedding anniversary at Park Hyatt New York but we decided to celebrate it at St Regis New York in 2018. We loved it so much that in 2019 we decided to go back there for our 28th Wedding Anniversary. Our stay in 2018 was so good compared to other hotel stays and so we expected that this year's stay will regress to mean and not be so great. However, it was actually much better than our stay in 2018. It was simply amazing. We were given a beautiful room, most likely the best room we ever stayed at. The front desk was so welcoming especially considering the high season of November/December in nyc. The room service food was out of this world, And, the biggest shining star was our butler Olivera. She made sure that we had the best hotel stay ever. She took care of all details, from the check in to the check out. We have never seen someone who cares so much about her hotel guest but is also so proud to be an employee at the hotel. We felt like we were at home and not at a hotel! We now plan to celebrate every wedding anniversary at St Regis New York and we will always ask for Olivera to be our butler.
