Absolutely unimpressed...

Seattle, Washington

My mom and I came to stay at Novotel Times Square for what was our first trip to the east coast. Upon check in, the front desk supervisor Sadk gave us a hard time about having proper identification for our discounted rate stay, with words such as “you should have been notified prior to coming” and “this always happens.” I eventually went to present the appropriate ID with another front desk manager, and it ended up being that we didn’t need to do it at all! They already had all my information! We were booked for 5 nights. 1st night went by without issues. Then the next night, around 2 am, the alarm for fire went off throughout the hotel, and an agent over the intercom said “ATTENTION ATTENTION, THERE IS AN INVESTIGATION HAPPENING IN THE BASEMENT. REMAIN CALM AND STAY IN YOUR ROOMS.” This happened twice, and after about 20 min, the alarms went off non-stop, loudly. By this time I had seen and smelled smoke and burning plastic so we (my mom and I) and about half the hotel evacuated on our own accord, feeling very unsafe. My mom had difficulty breathing as we walked down the exit stairs. We stood out in the night on the sidewalk for about 2.5 hours with no sign of any hotel staff to communicate. After the fire fighters signaled us to come back and go about our night, still the hotel staff was not present. Next morning, not having gotten any sleep, we decided to go down and speak with the manager on duty shout what had happened. We thought we would be compensated for the night of stay, considering the outtake it would have on our next day. The front desk manager never apologized, deflected absolutely all responsibility and ownership on the hotel side, and told us there was no danger. And that we would pay full price for the previous night of stay. We get it, fires happen, unexpected things happen, and it’s not always fun. But I think a sincere apologize would have been nice. An explanation would have been nice. We ultimately ended up feeling very unsafe with the handling of the situation and ended up setichijg hotels. If more than half the hotel felt a need to evacuate, I think that sends a message. There is an emergency plan for every hotel for when these things happen, and for the staff at Novotel TS so suggest that this was “just our luck” when people had dofficukty breathing and ran out into the street without shoes or jackets on because of feeling in danger, then I don’t think that is acceptable.

Great hotel, amazing location - wonderful stay!

Grays Thurrock, United Kingdom

This last trip was my tenth time to New York so have tried a few of the mid-town hotels already, I must say this was my favourite out of all the ones I have stayed in. My brother contacted the hotel before we went as it was my birthday whilst we were there, Sam replied and said that we would be treated as VIPs. When we arrived we were told we had a high floor times square view room which was great and the view was incredible!! First time i have had one in NY. The room itself was really nice, the only little niggle I had that there wasn't too much drawer space but it was fine. They brought a cheesecake up on the first night for my birthday which was a really nice touch. The beds are extremely comfortable, the room was very clean as well as the bathroom. Every member of staff we encountered were very friendly and helpful. We had no issues with the lifts whilst we were there, they always came quick (compared to the other hotels I have stayed in). Would definitely stay here again and recommend it!
