Bring your appetite for apologies

We love Kimpton properties, and routinely go out of our way to plan our stay with them when we travel. This is why Kimpton Ink48 had us baffled from the minute we checked in: The otherwise polite gentleman at the desk made no mention of our room type as he handed us our key, and seemed to make a point of avoiding any type of eye contact during the exchange. We soon discovered why. Our junior suite provided sweeping views of a fleet of Verizon service trucks and little else. Another visit to the front to desk to ask if we could switch rooms was met with a curt "I'm very sorry. I do apologize." No matter, this is a big, beautiful city. We'll make the best of it, right? A wonderful birthday dinner and drinks with friends complete with a bouquet of flowers brought back to our suite to enjoy! A quick call to the concierge to arrange for a vase to keep them was met with a curt reply that this hotel with a bar and restaurant had zero vases in stock along with "I'm very sorry. I do apologize." No solution offered, but a pattern was emerging here... A quick trip up to the top floor to enjoy a drink and take in the view sounded great! We we met by a gentleman at the ground floor, who could not look up from his phone long enough to tell us that the top floor was closed for the evening, but we did get the now familiar "I'm very sorry. I do apologize." By the time our stay had come to an end, we'd had our fill. The young lady handling our departure asked how our stay was, to which I replied how lovely it had been. I don't think either one of us could handle any more saccharine apologies. This place is Kimpton in name only. Some views might be great, others not so much. The rooms are adequate, but your experience here clearly appears to be a roll of the dice. As for us, we'll vote with our feet and enjoy Manhattan elsewhere next time, and would encourage you to do the same! Please enjoy the pics of our view and our homemade vase fashioned on the spot from a plastic water bottle to spruce things up! Cheers, Ink48!

Views for days!

San Francisco, California

My boyfriend and fur baby stayed here for 3 nights right before Labor Day weekend and our stay exceeded all our expectations! I don't know why so many others are giving such harsh reviews because that was not our experience whatsoever. The first thing to note is so many people are complaining about the noise from the club. If you are a smart traveler and do your research before spending hundreds if not thousands of dollars on a hotel then you would have read about the noise (which is out of the hotels control) and find another hotel that suits your needs! Also for those who complained about the location of this hotel you would know that it is about a 15 min to 20 min walk to the subway (from other reviews and gooogle maps) so please stop complaining when you have the choice to book where you want yo stay! We booked this location knowing it was right on the river, away from all the craziness and perfect for Intrepid/Chelsea Piers boating activities and a 15 min taxi ride from the World Trade Observatory. Every employee who we encountered were so kind, friendly and attentive to all our needs. Maybe all these people who give such awful reviews walk around with frowns on their faces all day and who wants to be nice to Scrooge? Thanks for the iced coffee every morning, free wine at 5, letting my dog stay for free, spacious rooms (compared to most NY hotels), spectacular views, comfortable bed, refreshing bath amenities and most importantly the staff who made our stay so hospitable! Sumo misses everyone at Ink48!
