3 star not 4

Carrickfergus, United Kingdom

Our check in went smoothly and staff we dealt with were friendly and helpful. Our room was on the 4th floor and was very quiet. The rooms aren't as pictured in the photos. They are grubby and worn. The rooms needed freshened up and painted. Our furniture had loads of scrapes and our bathroom furniture was so worn. The bathroom ceiling was disgusting and our shower plug hole was blocked full of hairs. Our bedroom was small but comfortable. The beds sheets were clean but the mattress protector had stains on it but no evidence of bed visitors like other guests reviews. Our room was cleaned everyday and free bottles of water.

Good hotel and location but guests should be warned about the hotel’s check in policy

This is certainly not the first time I visit NYC and I have NEVER gone through such a terrible time while checking in like I did at this hotel. After having swiped my different cards at the front desk, the employee said that none of them were working and therefore wasn’t willing to give me a room until I fixed this issue myself. Despite me making the reservation a lot of time ahead, I was disappointed with how I was treated because of this issue. It wasn’t until I had my card limit fixed at the bank that they let me check in. But had it not been for that, they would have left me with nowhere to stay for two weeks since they said they were sold out. I wonder, what if I had made the reservation with a foreign credit card and had no bank to help me out with this issue? They should be more mindful and considerate because not all tourist guests are necessarily aware of this policy. Additionally they never responded to an e-mail I’ve sent them regarding a personal lost item. The room was spacious/comfortable and was glad to see there was an every day room service. The location is great, close to pretty much all train stations. Overall I had a good stay but wasn’t expecting to be treated like that for something that exceeded my control.
