Top Tips from our Experts

"We took the resort bikes for a 10-mile downhill ride to Woodstock. The scenery was absolutely stunning and the chef even prepared a picnic, with amazing homemade breads and aged cheeses. The service is incredible – we were too tired to ride back, so the resort even sent a car to collect us."

"My favourite part of my stay was the onsite pub – it's a great place to meet other guests over a game on the billiards table. After an amazing dinner, we relaxed with a late-night glass of cognac by the stone fire pit  under the Vermont stars – truly breath-taking."

Spectacular second stay

New York City, New York

Just returned from our magnificent second Twin Farms stay in less than one year. (See our January 10th 2018 winter review at https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g57174-d265474-r552944716-Twin_Farms-Barnard_Vermont.html). We have stayed at almost all of the Relais and Chateaux properties in Eastern USA and Canada and our standards are quite high, but once again Twin Farms managed to exceed expectations. We cannot wait to return to what is truly a four season destination. You will love it whatever time of year you choose. With some new additions to the menu, the meals which were excellent in the past, are now even more so. Truly outstanding. They are always looking to find new ways to amaze you and take the guest experience to a new level be it meals or activities. Perfect guest to staff ratio -- you will never wait or want for anything, be it privacy, attention, relaxation or imaginative or strenuous activities. We stayed in Aviary which is even more beautiful than pictured on the web if you can imagine that. We felt as though we were living in a Tree House. The hot tub in front of the perfectly staged gorgeous fireplace was lovely to come home to each night, greeted by chocolate covered strawberries and beautiful candles. But no matter what accommodation you choose you will be wowed, as they are all magnificent with unique touches, comfort, and beautiful art. The drive from New York was quite fine (4.5 hours straight up 91 from NYC), so even if you leave from NY in the morning you can get there by lunch and have the whole afternoon to play. We spent most of our time hiking and swimming. The hike up to the top of ski hill is not to be missed and doable for all ages. I cannot imagine a more beautiful place to have a picnic, and no need to carry the basket up, because you will find it magically set up for you when you reach the top. Our favourite thing to do was hang out at their private Copper Pond, which was exquisite and pristine with a sandy beach bottom and no muck. We brought our snorkels and spent hours snorkeling all around the warm large pond, and as the other guests were hiking, biking, spa-ing or partaking in the various daily activities offered, we had it for the most part all to ourselves, with the only interruption a welcome one at lunch time when someone discreetly dropped off and set up an amazing lunch for us at the cabana. We also enjoyed kayaking and canoeing on the pond as well as relaxing on comfy floats available to place in the pond. When we were not swimming, hiking or enjoying meals and snacks, we were playing bocce, ping pong, darts, and the well curated Wurlitzer juke box (with a particularly great range of songs to choose from), or soaking in the perfect Furo bathouse (which you can have all to yourself if you wish) or enjoying great cocktails by one of the variously staged bonfires. The gardens and wildflowers are really quite spectacular. We are not big drinkers but their new Bloody Mary station was a particular hit, with three incredible different types of inventive farm to table purees to choose from and and trimmings that were delicious and imaginative. Our favourite dinner menu items included the spicy crab and watermelon curry, and the house made pasta with clams and a delicate basil sauce. Also loved the great house made chicken apple pepper sausage, banana muffins and the various type of morning scones and the interesting cheeses they served at cocktail time. Lunch and breakfast were served outside while dinner was in front of the large fireplaces in the lovely dinning room, and you will fit in however you dress. Our sincere thanks to all of the staff who made our stay incredibly special, especially Brenda who is amazing and whose suggestions are not to be missed. Her love for Twin Farms and the outdoors is infectious and makes everything so much fun. We were particularly impressed by how engaged Twin Farms' extraordinary general manager Michael Beardsley was in ensuring everything was just so and in being always available to all guests. His quiet individual attention and devotion to each guest’s experience makes all the difference.

Impeccable Service, Outstanding Experience

Boston, Massachusetts

Last winter when we were considering properties for a mini-honeymoon following our July wedding, my then-fiance and I targeted Twin Farms based on reviews and recommendations from coworkers. When we called to book our stay, the reservations team informed us that our dates fell during the resort's Summer Family Week - and encouraged us to visit some other time to ensure we'd have "an authentic Twin Farms experience." The staff explained that they welcome children to Twin Farms just twice a year during Family Weeks, and that makes for a different atmosphere than the other 50 weeks when it is adults-only. We made our reservation regardless (we couldn't reschedule our wedding!) and trusted that we'd still be able to enjoy ourselves. When we arrived the day after our wedding, we were blown away by the amount of time, care, and attention that the Twin Farms staff paid to ensure we felt welcomed. From the moment we pulled up we were treated not just as valued guests, but with the hospitality typically reserved for old friends. We have been lucky to patron other luxury properties, and it is not often that the General Manager seeks you out to introduce himself mere minutes after you've walked through the doors - but that seems to be the norm at Twin Farms. In fact, all of the staff members we interacted with were lovely; but special kudos to Marko, Rebecca, Jimmy, and Chelsea who worked tirelessly to make our stay perfect. Sure, there were children on the property - but Twin Farms sprawls across nearly 400 acres, so we barely saw them. And when we did come across the occasional munchkin, we didn't notice them; we were too busy with private picnics, a candlelit dinner in the wine cellar, champagne toasts, and dips in the furo. When we weren't busy "honeymooning," we felt like kids ourselves away at camp. We fished, hiked, and played board games in the cabana when it rained. We rode bikes through the woods and did cannonballs into Copper Pond. We built fires and ate leftover wedding cake on our porch. At the risk of sounding saccharine, we made memories that we'll cherish forever. TL;DR: I could go on and on about the picturesque grounds, our accommodations in Log Cabin (known henceforth strictly as Dog Cabin to us), the exquisite dinners, and the plentiful amenities... but I'll let other reviewers cover those elements. What set Twin Farms apart for us was the staff's steadfast commitment to making our stay not only comfortable, but truly special. We absolutely cannot wait to return and feel strongly that Twin Farms is a high-water mark for private, luxury properties in the United States.
