No hot water & dirty carpets

When we arrived at the Inn we were kind loving the way things were set up. The wife & I havent been away from our kids in over 5 years. We stayed for 2 nights at 220 a night which was ok for weekend nights I guess. We showered both days with cold water, not my idea of a good time. Carpets were incredibly stained to boot. I read another review on here Aug 10th about the children running around above room 255 & the client stating that there was only storage above. The wife & I heard children running around above us to in room 218 in the morning & night. I'm under the impression that there is no rooms up there 🤔. I didnt see any stairs to go up there so I'm guessing it's something else. Kinda creepy I'd say. Long story short spoke with Brian about hot water & the girl at the desk but we didnt get anywhere. We wont be back that's for sure. For another hundred bucks we could stay at the grand hotel... Good luck guys

Perfectly Adequate

Portsmouth, United Kingdom

We stayed at Merrill Farm Inn for three nights. The location is good although a car is needed to get around as there is not a lot in walking distance and it’s on a busy road. The staff are delightful and couldn’t have been more friendly and helpful if they tried. They are the best thing about the place. As many people have mentioned, the decor is very dated, but if you are looking for basic accommodation in a decent location then this is the place for you. It isn’t a luxury hotel at all- and it doesn’t claim to be. The Barn restaurant that’s attached is quite strange. We had dinner there on our first night. The two members of staff working seemed very flustered and very keen for us to leave, e.g. they gave us the check before they’d taken our plates and didn’t ask if we’d like to see a dessert menu. We asked if we could stay for some more drinks and it seemed that the server rolled his eyes then agreed. I was given a lipstick stained wine glass, which I (very politely!!) asked to swap, which they did, but then was given back the very same lipstick stained glass for my next drink. I don’t think this was intentional, but perhaps a bit more attention could be given to things like dirty glasses/marks on plates etc. Breakfast in The Barn is perfectly fine. Many reviews about the breakfast at Merrill Farm Inn have been negative, but we thought it was good. On the whole, Merrill Farm Inn is a basic but very friendly place to stay.
