Warwick, Rhode Island

My wife has been waiting years to come here and we had heard nothing but good things about this place. We finally decided to spend a night here and check it out. My wife was excited to say the least. The concept of this place is nice on the surface, however, the delivery and execution is another story. The Christmas Farm Inn unfortunately did not live up to our expectations that we had for it. Before we arrived at the Inn, my wife called the front desk to inquire about the possibility of an early check-in as my wife and I had already booked a massage for 2:15PM and we knew check-in was at 3PM. The woman who was working the front desk informed my wife over the phone that we should come early and see if the room was ready and if it was, we could check in a little early. Now, one would think that maybe she would try to see if housekeeping could make up the room a little earlier, since she was aware of our request. Mind you, this request was only made because we could only get massage appointments for 2:15pm, 45 minutes before check-in. We arrive shortly after and park our car across the street from the main inn and we walk across to check-in. We are told that our room is not ready. We ask if there is anywhere that we can change and keep our stuff and we are told we can change in the spa and to leave our luggage in the car. The lady at the front desk was friendly but less than interested in accommodating us. Now, we have to walk back from check-in, across the street to our car, and drive to the top of the hill, to the carriage house, to park for our massage appointments. We get our massages and attempt to charge our tips to the room, however, we cannot charge them to the room because we have not been checked in yet. Now, we have to get back in our car, covered in oil from our massages that’s now all over our clothes and drive back down the hill, park across the street from the main inn, and walk across the street to check-in. This time we are able to check-in, but oddly enough, the girl at the front desk pretends like she doesn't know that we already tried to check in. After checking-in, we drove back up the hill to get to our room. Upon arriving at our room, we quickly realized that the room was in serious need of updating. The room was highlighted by a faint musty smell, dusty curtains, dust and dried up urine was visible on the basin of our toilet, and our shades in our room were broken, not being able to go down all of the way. They also made a very strange crackling noise that made it sound like it was raining. For the amount that we paid ($260 for a weekday night), I would have expected a lot more out of the room. I understand that it’s an Inn and not a 5 star hotel, but the room looked like it hadn’t seen any updates in years. We then decide to check out the hot tub and indoor pool. We quickly realize that the path from the carriage house to the indoor pool had not been shoveled, so we once again have to get back in our car and drive down the hill to get to the pool that has insufficient parking (3 spots). Walking up and down the hill is not feasible as it is blanketed with ice and is quite steep, especially in the middle of winter. We ended the night with dinner and again had to drive down to the bottom of the hill and park across from the main inn and cross back over to get to the restaurant. Dinner was delicious, prices a bit pricey, but not too bad. We were fortunate enough to have gone on a Monday night for the 2 for 1 Monday night dinner special which was great! Drinks were very pricey, $8.25 for a Citizens cider and $14 for a prosecco. Our waiter Josh was not personable at all and seemed less than interested to be serving us. The blonde waitress waiting on the table next to us seemed much more personable. In many ways, he, as well as the woman at the front desk who checked us in seemed to be passive aggressive. All in all, my wife and I made the most of our trip to the Christmas Farm Inn and enjoyed our time there. We especially enjoyed our time at the spa getting massages and sitting by the fireplace with a glass of champagne in hand. The spa staff were great with the exception of the receptionist. While the layout of the Christmas Farm Inn cannot be changed, I do hope they address their customer service issues and willingness to accommodate guests who are paying good money to stay in subpar accommodations.

Wonderful Trip

My wife and I stayed in the log cabin for a few days recently. The cabin was well appointed with a very comfortable couch and king size bed. There is a gas fire place that adds some nice ambiance and can heat the whole cabin. The complimentary breakfast is delicious with a good variety of foods from oatmeal to omelets to pancakes. We had dinner in the restaurant one night which was delicious and then retired to the onsite pub for a few drinks. The pub is well stocked with all varieties of beer and spirits and is cozy and cute. Location is ideal to be able to reach multiple ski resorts within 30 minutes as well as North Conway shops and outlets. We had a wonderful time and intend to come back again.
