Classy Hotel

Durham, United Kingdom

We stayed here for 2 nights in June and had a lovely, comfortable, spotlessly clean room with 2 queen beds, although we arrived at 11am and our room was not ready until 3pm. We were, however, given 2 bottles of water free. The room had a small bath with shower above. Toiletries and flannels were provided and towels were changed if requested. There was a small, unlit hanging space with a curtain instead of a wardrobe but there were also several drawers for storage. The room has a fridge but no mini bar. There were some American sockets and some USB connections which were useful. The room safe was a good size and would fit a laptop. We didn’t eat in the hotel but used Starbucks, which can be accessed from the hotel lobby. We also ate at an Irish Bar in the same block as the hotel although there is a steak bar onsite. The lobby has large bar areas, a comfortable library area and a small gift shop. The hotel is only about 10 minutes drive from Logan Airport. The hotel is only a short walk from a good selection of designer shops including Tiffany’s but there are also budget outlets like H&M. The hotel is very close to Boston Public Gardens and Boston Common. We bought tickets for the old Town Trolley Bus from concierge, which allowed us to see Boston in one day. It is a hop on hop off bus (just over $40 each for 1 day) and although we had no problem it was not always possible to get on board when it reached a stop as it was full. The hotel has a mandatory facility fee of just over $25 per room per night for use of a local gym, Wi-fi and telephone. For us, as the room had been pre-paid this had already been incorporated into the amount charged. This is a very nice vibrant hotel if you want a little piece of Boston’s iconic luxury steeped in history but modernised sympathetically to suit modern travellers.

A great location, one block from the Boston Garden, Boston Common, The Freedom Trail & Trolley Stops

Las Cruces, New Mexico

In comparison, we found the room rate very reasonable for the central location downtown; they called it the Theater District. The room & bed was comfortable. We walked right over to the Boston Common & highly recommend checking in with the information center to find out about Freedom Trail tours. The trolleys stop one block over. We enjoyed a Red Sox game @ Fenway Park: a cab was waiting downstairs for $10 fare to the park (2 miles). We also recommend Atlantic Seafood near by. The staff was friendly; we would stay here again.
