Disney Magic!

Recently had a short, two-day, multi-generational vacation at Aulani. Included in our time there were the Disney character breakfast, lunch and dinner at Ama Ama, and snacks/quick bites at Ulu Cafe. Activities we did were the menehune adventure trail, Aunty's Beach House, and, of course, lots of time in the swimming pool (all these are at no additional charge). Of course, Aulani is not an inexpensive resort, but I came away feeling that with the legendary Disney customer service, the surprisingly good food, and all the extras activities provided at no additional charge, it was actually good value. Everyone, young and older, had a wonderful time!

Adults think twice, but kids love it.

Let me start of by saying I have not posted a review in a long time, life has been too busy with kids! All in all this is a great resort for kids. My children have no complaints what so ever. There are so many things for kids to do, they days fly by! Myself and my husband have not had the same experience. When we first checked in, it was busy but reception was quick, efficient and very pleasant. First problem: When we got to our 2 bedroom villa it was apparent only the AC worked in the master bedroom. The porter confirmed there was an issue with the AC jand we called for an engineer. The engineer found it was a combination of a safety switch and the slider door triggering the ac to shut down. It was a quick fix at the time, but unfortunately I think there is a larger problem with the way the slider door closes because the ac only works after significant manipulation of the slide door off the living room. Second problem: the quality at which the villa kept. You can tell housekeeping is on a very tight schedule and rushes - I mean rushes through the rooms. My middle son accidentally spilled his bottle of water on the kitchen floor shortly after our arrival. I wiped it up with paper towels and too my shock they were black with dirt. Talk about making you feel uncomfortable about walking barefoot, sitting on the couch or sleeping between the sheets. Third problem: we rented a two bedroom which is said to sleep 8. I have 3 adults and 4 children. The room was not properly prepared. It did not have as many blankets as beds and it did not have enough towels or toiletries. Worst of all, you only notice these issues at most inconvenient times. Such as when your kids wake up in the middle of the night cold and their are no blankets for their bed so you have four of you snuggling in one bed or you are in the middle of your first shower and the bottle of shampoo they supplied it half empty? I’m telling myself it leaked and they didn’t reuse it. My last issue - I rented a cabana for every day I was here. My second day, I was in number 5, Cabanas 3 and 4 were empty for the entire day. One of the cast members said that we had the whole section to ourselves today since the other guests cancelled. Later in the day my family sat in the empty seats to eat their lunches. Well this was not ok. The servers brought the manager over to ask us who said that was ok. Now let me just say, we were not rowdy, loud, blasting music or causing trouble. We are a family at a family resort. We paid 425 per day to use a cabana and where the two next to us were empty we spread out to eat out lunches. It just seemed extremely petty and short sighted. Of course we politely apologized and moved out of the other seats to finish our lunches. Needless to say I cancelled our cabana for the next day if this is how they operate. My kids are sad vacation is ending but I am ready to be home and will not be back. I’d much rather be at a 5 star resort and plan kids activities. Think twice before booking, If you can afford to stay here you can spend a little more and stay at a higher class resort.
