Saved our honeymoon! We'll be back.

My wife and I were honeymooning on Maui and due to a scheduling mix-up with an Airbnb reservation, we found ourselves in Hana at 5 PM with no place to stay for the night. We checked with several hotels and other Airbnb's in the area, but nothing was available. We were getting desperate and frustrated, and we were close to sleeping in our car or driving the Road to Hana at night. We finally decided to check with Travaasa to see what the rates and availability were. We were greeted by Rory at the front desk who quickly found us an ocean view room and was kind enough to apply a small honeymoon discount as well. His pleasant demeanor and cheerful attitude calmed us down, and our stay was one of the most memorable of our honeymoon. The room was spacious, clean, and modern. It felt like a small cottage. The large lanai with a big and comfortable lounge chair for two was perfect for relaxing and listening to the waves hit the rocky beach at night. We stayed in January, so no A/C was not a concern at all. The pool and hot tub were very nice as well. In the morning, we did a free yoga class. Later, we took the shuttle to the nearby Hamoa beach, and it truly was one of the nicest beaches we've ever experienced. Keep in mind that the point of the resort is that it's secluded and is meant to be a way to disconnect from the world a bit. They intentionally do not have TVs. Several reviews list this as a negative, but in addition to being a distraction, imagine coming all the way to Hana to relax while watching and listening to the ocean waves, only to have the people next door blaring their TV. The cost is a bit high, but it is a resort in a secluded part of an island in the middle of the Pacific. Celebrities appear to visit specifically for its seclusion and privacy. We saw a well known actor and his girlfriend as we left. We really enjoyed Travaaasa and Hana in general on our honeymoon. We will definitely be back to both.

Managers. Take Notes, Take Action

Wyoming

Great location. Wonderful rooms (if you are on the oceanfront). Garden rooms don’t seem to get a breeze, maybe I just didnt notice. Nice pool and food shack at the pool. The staff, other than valet, didn’t seem too interested in accommodating guests. They seem a bit tired of the visitors spending a lot of money to be there. The ‘optional staff fee’ (to pay towards their health insurance) is weird and expected at check in? I most likely would not have paid it for such an unambitious staff. When I booked I specifically asked for an upgrade through ?Star Rewards?, but when we got there, it was like they had no idea what we were taliking about. Very unambitious local , lazily reclined in her chair, kinda made us feel stupid for expecting something that we were told we could receive offering no apology; we were asses to ask? So then we pay the ridiculous upgrade fee? Travaasa is expensive. The spa massages are expensive. I feel bad for massage therapist who might not get too much work? Only guessing because at $175-$250, I wasn’t booking one. Maybe lower the price and keep the lady working and be more inclusive to people who may NOT want to afford such a pricey massage. I wish they had boogy boards so not everyone was having to buy nonrecyclable foam boards left to litter the yards and water, I wish they lent flippers and snorkel stuff.I wish, for the price that guests pay...a cooler? .... something..... I want to end on a positive note and that is I am glad for no tv in rooms. I am glad we are encouraged to unplug. I am glad they provide a shuttle to the beach and have beach chairs and umbrellas for guests. Yoga class is nice. The grounds are beautifully manicures. How about having a discussion with your team to be happy that people come and support their economy, provide jobs, support families, pay park fees to preserve the beauty, tip for good service and not out of guilt. Give some leeway; a benefit of the doubt that maybe some guests are telling the truth when they are told upgrades are available. Offer a courtesy something? Discounted upgrade? Wine in the room? A snack basket? A voucher for something? If you want a (literally) slice of luxury, staying here COULD be really nice, but I think Travaasa could offer a little more for the money.... if management cares, read your 3, 2 & 1 Star reviews, take notes and take ACTION! People WANT you to succeed!
