Nice Grounds + Terrible Customer Service

Boston, Massachusetts

My husband and I got married in June 2017 in Maui. We have a room block for all of our guests which totaled about 15 rooms or so. We made a $500 deposit for the room block. After our off-site wedding, we and any guests interested were going to the Luau that evening. Diane Nyguen, the person handling our room block/needs, said I could not take names or handle money -- all guests needed to sign up themselves via the concierge. Well, despite the fact that guests were on their own to sign up and Diane had the list of names and personally handed out the tickets, my husband and I have been deemed responsible for paying for four individuals that Diane gave tickets to but did not pay. We have been in "communications" with Diane since October 2017 to no avail. We are being held responsible for four guests that attended the luau but did not pay. They are also withholding our room block deposit which we realized they did not apply to our final bill and have been asking to be credited. Honestly, working with Diane and this experience with the Sheraton Maui has been nothing short of a disappointment and a headache, and it is entirely unacceptable that the Sheraton is holding us responsible for mistakes they (Diane) made internally. We have not made any progress on these issues since we started communicating with Diane in October and yet we continue to receive unitemized invoices every month, even though Diane stated that she has the names of the guests that did not pay. I'm writing about it here to warn others that when there are a lot of logistics for a room block, deposits and general charges, things get messy and it's easy to lose track if you aren't careful and looking closely. They will take advantage of you, even when the expense is not yours, and hope that you give up. Our efforts to communicate with Diane and the GM have proven ineffective.

Piece of Paradise

Sydney

Our first visit to Maui and this was the perfect location. Nestled down the end of Kaanapali Beach it doesn't suffer the passing foot traffic along the beachfront as the other hotels do. Only a 5 minute walk to Whalers Village and the free shuttle to Lahaina is a must. Breakfast at US$30 per head, pre tips, was a shock after having not included it in our booking. In terms of the hotel, the family had great expectations of a Hawaiian lei greeting on arrival but being an evening arrival a little let down. The grounds were lovely, well kept. The Deluxe Ocean View room was a delight but the bed was a little uncomfortable and paper cups for tea/coffee in a Sheraton and no complimentary water in the rooms...really!? FYI...Sprite and Lemonade are not the same thing. The food and service in the Black Rock Grill was exceptional! We would definitely recommend this hotel but think we'd plum for a room upgrade next time
