The little things

San Diego, California

Just returned from our honeymoon at the Four Seasons Resort Maui and it was fantastic! This resort really manages to stand out by doing the small things! They have sun screen available at both pools. This is huge in an area that's hot as Maui and I recommend applying often. Servers at the pool were constantly filling up water glasses and there are large pitchers of water infused with fruits/herbs at the pools you can get yourself. Another necessity in the heat (especially if you are also enjoying some libations). They also manage to shine in many other areas. The staff is great. The property very green with trees, bushes and grass. There is an adult only pool (serenity pool), a small pool for smaller children, and a pool for all ages. All pools have umbrellas/cabanas for shade. There are rules at each pool so you can't just go put your stuff down and not return for hours like at many hotels/resorts. The weight and cardio rooms were independent and both were of decent size and quality. The weight room was a little foreign because they have a lot of pulley machines but they also had a nice rack of dumbells. Everything was in great shape and was functioning. The cardio area had many different options and was outdoors. They had a game area. One room had 2 great looking pool tables, and a lot of board games to play. I looked into one room and I think it had tv's hooked up to video game systems (I saw Fornite on one screen). They also have a kids club type of thing. Very kid friendly and I think my kids would love this place. The beach is beautiful and there are activities available including canoeing. Staff will bring you loungers, umbrella and water. Since this was our honeymoon we splurged and booked the an ocean view club room. What I didn't know when I booked is that this gives you access to the club level lounge. The lounge has drawers full of snacks, beverages, and things like fruit and yogurt cups. They have a full drawer of king size candy: Twix, Snickers and the largest individual pack of starburst I've ever seen are just 3 of the tasty options. They also have 3 different periods where they have food/snacks. They have a continental breakfast, afternoon tea time with small triangles of sandwiches and other options, and evening times have different types of appetizers. The lounge also has a bar in the back. The concierges (Pat,Margaret & Kimberly were great!) are there to grab you some wine, a beer or a mixed drink if you are thirsty. We would go to the pool and then take turns going back up for drinks and snacks. The club level concierge is there to help you with anything you need. I called the concierge soon after I booked and made reservations at Spago's and rent a cabana at the serenity pool. Loved the room. Huge bathroom with a 7 channel stereo in the bathroom that had a speaker built into the wall...Very nice!!! Even though I've ranted about how great this place was there were a couple of negatives. One is that the pillows were really soft and flattened out quickly. We got tired of the food at the resort a couple of times but there are a lot of other options near. I would google places to get some local places other than suggested by the hotel.
